About the Role

The Senior Manager, Financial Reporting role at Openai is a critical position that requires a seasoned external reporting professional with a strong technical background and excellent communication skills. As a key member of the Financial Reporting team, you will be responsible for building and running a best-in-class financial reporting engine that supports the company's rapid growth and complexity. Your day-to-day activities will include collaborating with cross-functional teams, driving audit readiness, and improving scalability.

The Financial Reporting team is central to delivering accurate, timely, and GAAP-compliant financial information to internal and external stakeholders. As a senior manager, you will play a crucial role in shaping the team's strategy and direction, as well as mentoring and guiding junior team members.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to work closely with senior leadership, including the CFO and other executive team members, to provide financial insights and guidance that inform business decisions.

What You Will Do

Modernize reporting workflows through AI integration, leveraging tools like ChatGPT and Codex to minimize manual effort and accelerate deep analysis
Own end-to-end financial statements and disclosures, including preparing GAAP financial statements, footnotes, and supporting schedules
Drive audit readiness and execution, partnering with external auditors to manage day-to-day audit workflow and keep reporting on track with minimal rework
Lead disciplined close-to-reporting tie-outs, ensuring reporting outputs reconcile to source records and variances are understood and documented
Partner cross-functionally to deliver high-quality reporting, collaborating with Accounting, FP&A, Tax, Legal, and Investor Relations to align inputs and resolve questions quickly
Translate complexity into clear narratives, turning technical accounting conclusions, analyses, and audit feedback into crisp disclosures and leadership-ready summaries
Improve scalability and reduce manual effort, identifying and implementing process improvements, standard templates, and control points to simplify workflows and increase automation
Collaborate with the accounting team to ensure accurate and timely financial close processes
Develop and maintain technical accounting documentation, including memos and whitepapers

What We Are Looking For

10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including 4+ years in external reporting, with a strong track record owning GAAP financial statements and disclosures in dynamic and high-growth environments
Hands-on experience with financial reporting and ERP systems, such as Workiva or Oracle, demonstrating the ability to automate and integrate data for accurate reporting
Strong technical accounting knowledge, including expertise in researching standards, preparing technical memos, and managing complex accounting transactions
Active CPA license and excellent written and verbal communication skills
Proven project management skills, with experience managing cross-functional teams and driving projects to completion
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, prioritizing multiple tasks and meeting deadlines
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with experience analyzing complex financial data and identifying areas for improvement

Nice to Have

Background working in late-stage startups or large tech companies, particularly in the AI or software industry
Experience with AI-powered reporting tools and systems
Familiarity with agile development methodologies and lean principles
