About the Role
The Senior Manager, Technical Architect role at Gitlab is a critical position that oversees the technical architecture practice across the AMER region. This role is responsible for managing a team of senior technical architects who work on complex customer engagements, shaping new service patterns, and bringing emerging GitLab capabilities into production environments. The successful candidate will have a strong technical background, excellent communication skills, and the ability to coach and develop a team of senior technical architects.As a key member of the Professional Services team, the Senior Manager, Technical Architect will work closely with the sales team to develop and deliver complex technical solutions that meet customer needs. This role will also be responsible for managing the technical architecture practice end-to-end, covering presales collaboration, engagement scoping, technical delivery oversight, staffing, utilization, and forecast alignment.
The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of the tech industry, with a focus on DevSecOps, AI, and security. They will also have experience working with cross-functional teams, including sales, marketing, and product development.
What You Will Do
- Manage and develop the AMER Technical Architecture team, including Intermediate, Senior, and Staff Technical Architects working across platform, AI, and security-related customer engagements.
- Manage the practice end to end, covering presales collaboration, engagement scoping, technical delivery oversight, staffing, utilization, and forecast alignment.
- Coach architects to grow as credible advisors centered on customer outcomes, strong technical judgment, and consultative communication.
- Partner on complex presales motions with Engagement Managers on estimation, solution framing, statement of work assumptions, and technical risk.
- Join strategic customer conversations where senior technical expertise helps build credibility, clarify ambiguity, and improve the path to successful delivery.
- Guide the team through first-mover delivery of new GitLab capabilities, ensuring successful adoption and customer satisfaction.
- Develop and maintain a deep understanding of GitLab's products and services, including the company's AI and security offerings.
- Collaborate with the sales team to develop and deliver complex technical solutions that meet customer needs.
- Work with the product development team to provide feedback and input on new features and capabilities.
What We Are Looking For
- 8+ years of experience in a technical architecture role, with a focus on DevSecOps, AI, and security.
- 3+ years of experience managing a team of technical architects.
- Strong technical background, with expertise in areas such as cloud computing, cybersecurity, and data analytics.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work with cross-functional teams.
- Experience working with customers to understand their technical needs and develop solutions that meet those needs.
- Strong business acumen, with the ability to understand the financial and operational implications of technical decisions.
- Experience with Agile development methodologies and version control systems such as Git.
