About the Role
The Senior Manager, Software Engineering role at Twilio is a critical position that leads two key Commerce teams: Shopping Experience and Billing Experience. These teams are responsible for developing and maintaining core Billing and Commerce capabilities, including customer self-service, billing infrastructure, and lifecycle management. As a senior leader, you will partner closely with Product to shape the roadmap, drive execution, and deliver innovative solutions and capabilities for both internal stakeholders and external customers.The role entails day-to-day management of a team of world-class software engineers, collaborating with cross-functional teams to develop technical strategies, and driving the growth and development of individuals and the team. You will be responsible for raising the bar on reliability, operational efficiencies, and customer experience metrics core to Twilio's Billing Experience. Your influence will extend beyond your team, as you contribute to Twilio's talent evolution and help shape the company's engineering standards.

What You Will Do
- Lead a group of world-class Software Engineers working on core and critical systems directly used by Twilio's customers
- Collaborate with Product and Engineering peers across the organization to develop technical strategies and long-range plans
- Drive the growth and development of individuals and the team, providing guidance and mentorship as needed
- Raise the bar on reliability, operational efficiencies, and customer experience metrics core to Twilio's Billing Experience
- Influence direction, culture, and engineering standards across the team
- Hire, mentor, and develop world-class engineering talent, contributing to Twilio's talent evolution
- Partner with Product to shape the roadmap and drive execution for the Shopping Experience and Billing Experience teams
- Develop and maintain technical strategies for your team, aligning with Twilio's overall technical vision
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver innovative solutions and capabilities for internal stakeholders and external customers
What We Are Looking For
- 10+ years of experience working on large-scale distributed systems
- 3+ years of experience managing engineering teams, with a proven track record of delivering in a fast-paced and ambiguous environment
- Experience in leading 1-2 teams of total 8+ engineers, with a strong focus on customer experience and technical excellence
- Understanding of architectural patterns and best practices of high-scale web applications (e.g., well-designed APIs, Backend For Frontend, Domain Driven Development)
- Ability to dive deep into technical details and provide guidance to the team when required
- Strong customer focus, with a deep understanding of customer needs and the ability to ensure that solutions meet those needs
- Prior experience in the Billing domain, with an understanding of industry trends and best practices
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams
Nice to Have
- Experience with Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) technologies
- Knowledge of cloud-based technologies, such as AWS or Azure
- Experience with Agile development methodologies and DevOps practices
- Certification in software engineering or a related field
- Experience working in a remote-first environment, with a strong understanding of the challenges and opportunities of remote work
