Job Description

About the Role

Urbantz is revolutionizing last-mile delivery operations for some of the world's largest retail, grocery, e-commerce, and logistics companies. As a Senior Mobile Engineer, you will be embedded in a product squad, working closely with a product manager, designer, and other engineers to shape and build features from idea to App Store release. Your primary focus will be on developing and maintaining the company's native mobile apps for iOS and Android, ensuring they are robust, scalable, and provide a seamless user experience for both drivers and recipients.

The mobile apps are the backbone of Urbantz's solution, enabling drivers to scan parcels, navigate routes, and collect signatures efficiently. They must function flawlessly, even in areas with poor GPS reception or offline, making this a role for someone who enjoys solving complex technical problems and is passionate about delivering high-quality software.

What You Will Do

  • Develop and maintain native mobile applications for iOS and Android, focusing on performance, scalability, and user experience.
  • Collaborate with the product squad to design, develop, and ship new features that enhance the delivery experience for drivers and recipients.
  • Refactor and modernize the iOS and Android codebases to reduce technical debt and improve architecture.
  • Write comprehensive tests to prevent regressions and ensure the reliability of the applications.
  • Utilize AI tooling to streamline development processes and improve efficiency across both platforms.
  • Work closely with the product manager and designer to understand requirements and provide technical input on feature development.
  • Participate in code reviews to maintain high coding standards and share knowledge with the team.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest developments and best practices in mobile development, applying this knowledge to continuously improve the applications.
  • Contribute to the improvement of the development process, suggesting improvements and implementing changes as needed.

What We Are Looking For

  • Experience in building native mobile apps (either iOS or Android) with a focus on maintainability and good architecture.
  • Strong understanding of mobile development principles, including design patterns, performance optimization, and security.
  • Experience with refactoring and modernizing existing codebases, improving test coverage, and reducing technical debt.
  • Strong testing mindset, with the ability to write comprehensive unit and integration tests.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in a remote team environment.
  • Proficiency in English, with the ability to communicate technical ideas clearly and concisely.
  • Experience working in a remote setting, with the ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
  • Familiarity with Agile development methodologies and version control systems like Git.

Nice to Have

  • Five or more years of experience in mobile development, preferably in a logistics or delivery-focused environment.
  • Interest in last-mile logistics and operational products, with a passion for solving real-world problems.
  • Experience in taking ownership of ongoing projects, driving them from conception to delivery.
  • Knowledge of NodeJS, MongoDB, and cloud platforms like AWS or Azure.

Benefits and Perks

  • The freedom to work remotely from anywhere in Europe, with the option to use Urbantz's offices in Brussels if desired.
  • Autonomy to define your work schedule, with the expectation of being available for team meetings and collaborations.
  • Opportunity to work on challenging and impactful projects that transform the delivery experience for millions of people.
  • Competitive compensation package, reflecting your experience and contribution to the company.
  • Health and wellness programs, including access to mental health support and fitness initiatives.
  • Professional development opportunities, including training, conferences, and workshops to enhance your skills and knowledge.
  • A collaborative and dynamic work environment, with a team that values innovation, transparency, and open communication.

How to Stand Out

  • Ensure your portfolio highlights your experience in native mobile app development, particularly in logistics or similar industries.
  • Be prepared to discuss your approach to solving complex technical problems, such as handling offline operations or poor GPS reception.
  • Show a willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies, such as AI tooling for development efficiency.
  • Demonstrate your understanding of testing principles and how you integrate testing into your development workflow.
  • Prepare examples of how you have improved code quality, reduced technical debt, or enhanced application performance in previous roles.
  • Be ready to discuss your experience with remote work, including tools you use for collaboration and time management.
