About the Role

The (Senior) n8n Business Automation Developer plays a crucial role in Kaufland e-commerce's tech powerhouse, responsible for automating complex business processes and creating AI agents using modern LLMs. As part of the Tech & Product Team, you will collaborate with cross-functional teams to analyze, redesign, and automate new and existing processes. With a start-up mentality and flat hierarchies, the company fosters an environment of innovation and equal opportunities.

About the Team

The Tech & Product Team consists of approximately 400 experts working together to create the best possible customer shopping experience for Kaufland's online marketplace. The team's focus on innovative technical developments not only enhances the shopping experience but also lays the foundation for an optimal selling experience for sellers.

What You Will Do

  • Automate complex business processes in a reliable and maintainable way using tools like n8n
  • Create and optimize AI agents using modern LLMs and related tooling
  • Partner with business departments to analyze, redesign, and automate new and existing processes
  • Collaborate with the Center of Excellence for Automation to propose, prioritize, and lead initiatives that improve automation and AI platforms
  • Work cross-functionally with technical experts, product managers, and business leaders to share best practices and enable self-serve automation
  • Integrate SaaS tools and internal systems via APIs, webhooks, OAuth, and event-driven patterns
  • Develop and maintain concise documentation and playbooks
  • Communicate trade-offs to both business and engineering stakeholders

What We Are Looking For

  • Foundational programming skills in JavaScript for n8n Function nodes or equivalent experience
  • Experience with automation/orchestration tools like n8n, Zapier, or Make
  • Proficiency with APIs and data manipulation: JSON, REST, SQL for joins/aggregations, and the occasional regex
  • Strong communication skills to explain trade-offs to both business and engineering stakeholders
  • Experience with prompt engineering and building AI Agents is a plus
  • Fluency in English (C1) and good German skills (B2) are a plus

Nice to Have

  • Experience with Python or other programming languages
  • Knowledge of cloud-based automation platforms
  • Familiarity with agile development methodologies
