About the Role
The Senior Partner Engineer position at Affirm represents a unique opportunity to combine technical expertise with business strategy, driving the growth of Affirm's revenue through the development of innovative Buy Now Pay Later (BNPL) solutions. As part of the Merchant and Platform Engineering team, this role is pivotal in supporting large cross-functional programs and providing technical leadership across Commercial and Product Partnership teams. The ideal candidate will not only have a deep understanding of ecommerce technologies and data models but also the ability to communicate complex ideas effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.The role involves representing Affirm's engineering team and technologies to significant partners such as Shopify and Stripe, fostering a culture of engineering excellence and innovation. Operational support for ad hoc partner requests, collaboration with engineering teams on solution design, and managing the execution of long-term initiatives are also key aspects of this position. Given the dynamic nature of the ecommerce landscape, the ability to adapt and innovate is crucial.
What You Will Do
- Develop detailed project plans, including solution design, timeline estimation, task breakdown, and testing plans.
- Provide day-to-day support for technical questions from external partner stakeholders, ensuring seamless integration and operation of Affirm's solutions.
- Develop integration support materials and documentation for new products, rollouts, and features to enhance partner experience and reduce onboarding time.
- Serve as a subject matter expert (SME) and point of escalation for internal and external teams facing technical challenges, providing timely and effective resolutions.
- Make strategic recommendations on integration strategy, platform evolution, infrastructure, and tooling selection to optimize user experience and drive business results.
- Explore the business intersection between Affirm's commercial strategy and technical partnership capabilities, identifying opportunities for growth and improvement.
- Contribute to the development of external documentation to strengthen the overall partnership experience, ensuring that all materials are accurate, up-to-date, and aligned with Affirm's vision.
What We Are Looking For
- 4+ years of experience in a Solutions Engineering, Partner Engineering, Sales Engineering, Technical Account Management, Solutions Architecture, or a similar customer-facing engineering role.
- Ability to read and understand multiple programming languages, with a focus on those relevant to ecommerce and payment technologies.
- Experience with ecommerce technologies and data models, including a deep understanding of how these systems integrate and interact.
- Familiarity with JSON, HTML, REST API, and Webhook technologies, as well as experience in integrating UX elements with backend services, frameworks, and third-party developer APIs.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to influence internal and external stakeholders and drive projects forward.
- Strong project management skills, capable of prioritizing tasks, managing timelines, and ensuring the successful completion of projects.
- Passion for driving change in consumer banking and financial services, with a commitment to honesty, transparency, and innovation.

- Experience with various types of partners (e.g., ecommerce platforms, payment processors, payment gateways, and wallets), understanding their specific needs and challenges.
