About the Role
The Senior Principal Software Engineer position at Docker is a critical role that will define and drive the technical strategy for the company's foundational platform. This platform encompasses accounts, billing, data, enterprise governance, and infrastructure, and is essential for Docker's transformation into a unified enterprise platform. As a technical visionary and architect, the successful candidate will be responsible for establishing strategic technical plans, making critical architectural decisions, and driving execution of cross-company programs.The role is part of the Bridge organization, which is the backbone of Docker's product portfolio. The Bridge organization provides the foundational systems that support Docker's business model evolution, expansion into AI and security products, and growth into hundreds of thousands of enterprise customers. The Senior Principal Software Engineer will work closely with the VP of Engineering and other stakeholders to translate organizational strategy into technical roadmaps that span multiple teams and years.

What You Will Do
- Define and own the multi-year technical vision for Docker's foundational platform
- Establish strategic plans and objectives for major platform initiatives
- Contribute to and drive the strategic vision in collaboration with the VP of Engineering
- Identify and prioritize platform investments that provide maximum leverage
- Develop architectural principles and standards that guide technical decisions across the Bridge organization
- Lead large cross-company programs that require coordination across multiple teams
- Architect the unified platform interfaces that enable product teams to answer canonical questions
- Drive convergence of fragmented systems across Docker
- Establish technical contracts between platform and product teams
- Lead architectural reviews for major initiatives
What We Are Looking For
- 10+ years of experience in software engineering, with a focus on technical leadership and architecture
- Deep technical expertise across multiple domains, including programmatic solutions and infrastructure
- Experience with Excel and other data analysis tools
- Business acumen and the ability to translate commercial strategy into platform capabilities
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work with executive stakeholders
- Experience with cloud-based services and AI integration
- A bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field
