Job Description

About the Role

The Senior Principal System Administrator will play a critical role in ensuring the smooth operation of RTX's systems, focusing on integration, security, and network management. This role requires a deep understanding of system administration principles, including authentication protocols, patch management, and vulnerability management. The ideal candidate will have experience working with Windows and/or Linux Server Operating Systems and will be proficient in troubleshooting networking issues, including subnetting, site-to-site VPNs, and firewalls.

Day-to-day responsibilities will include managing and configuring servers, workstations, and storage arrays, as well as setting up and managing VMware hosts, clusters, virtual servers, and networking. The ability to work independently and as part of a team, supporting engineers in software, simulations, and hardware development, is crucial. Given the nature of RTX's work, candidates must be U.S. citizens eligible for a security clearance.

What You Will Do

  • Utilize knowledge of system and service integration to manage authentication protocols, patch management, network segregation, and vulnerability management.
  • Troubleshoot networking issues, including subnetting, site-to-site VPNs, and firewalls.
  • Configure and manage servers, workstations, and storage arrays.
  • Set up and manage VMware hosts, clusters, virtual servers, and networking.
  • Experience managing Windows Active Directory, including users, service accounts, groups, computer objects, and policies.
  • Implement Department of Defense Directive (DoDD) 8140 / 8570 Certification requirements.
  • Use Information Technology project lifecycle management processes.
  • Apply experience with VMWare vCenter, vSphere, and ESX and/or other virtual computing methods.
  • Support engineers in software, simulations, and hardware development.
  • Implement scripting for automation and efficiency.

What We Are Looking For

  • Experience with Windows and/or Linux Server Operating Systems.
  • Troubleshooting skills for networking issues.
  • Experience configuring servers, workstations, and storage arrays.
  • Knowledge of setting up and managing VMware hosts, clusters, virtual servers, and networking.
  • Experience with Windows Active Directory management.
  • CompTIA Security+ CE or equivalent certification.
  • Operating System Certification.
  • Experience with DFARS, RMF, NIST Cybersecurity Framework.
  • Understanding of Information Technology project lifecycle management processes.
  • Experience with VMWare vCenter, vSphere, and ESX.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with Microsoft WSUS, SCCM, and/or Exchange.
  • Scripting experience for automation.
  • Knowledge of cloud computing platforms.
  • Experience with agile project management methodologies.
