About the Role
As a Senior Privacy Counsel at RingCentral, you will serve as the primary privacy legal advisor, providing proactive, risk-based counsel to product teams as they build AI-first communications and contact center solutions for customers multi-nationally. This role requires a unique blend of legal expertise, technical knowledge, and business acumen, as you will be responsible for translating global privacy laws and AI regulations into actionable guidance that enables business growth and innovation. You will report to the Head of Privacy and work closely with cross-functional teams, including Engineering, Product Management, and Information Security.The Senior Privacy Counsel role is critical to RingCentral's success, as the company continues to invest heavily in AI-enabled technology and platforms. What You Will Do
- Act as the dedicated privacy legal point of contact, providing proactive, risk-based counsel to Engineering and Product Management teams throughout the entire development lifecycle of new services and features
- Provide specialized legal advice on the privacy implications of any new features, including AI features, in collaboration with the Product Counseling and Regulatory Teams
- Lead the execution and documentation of Privacy Impact Assessments (PIAs) and Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs) for new features and services
- Drive legal processes that embed privacy requirements early in the development process, in coordination with other Privacy Team Members
- Ensure that RingCentral services comply with evolving global privacy and security regulations
- Partner directly with the Information Security team to review product security controls, conduct risk analyses, and align legal privacy requirements with technical security implementation
- Develop and update customer-facing collateral and resources on RingCentral Trust Center to support transparency for customers and partners
- Support records of processing activities and documentation for products, including data locations, data transfers, and subprocessor processing
- Support the incident response program by ensuring that documentation is current and in alignment with applicable laws and by representing the privacy team in incident response activities
- Monitor legal developments, collaborate, and build relationships with industry peers to stay abreast of trends and issues globally
What We Are Looking For
- J.D. Degree and active membership in good standing with at least one US state bar
- 6+ years of legal experience with a focus on data privacy, preferably combining law firm and in-house experience
- Direct experience counseling product teams on privacy requirements with the ability to balance business needs and legal requirements
- Deep working knowledge of major global privacy laws and practical implementation of the laws to product innovation
- Understanding of the legal and governance implications of the adoption and development of AI-powered solutions
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to think critically and creatively
Nice to Have
- Experience with cloud-based technologies and data analytics platforms
- Knowledge of emerging AI regulations and ethical guidelines
- Certification in data privacy, such as CIPP/US or CIPM
