About the Role
As a Senior Product Designer specializing in motion design at Underdog Sports, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the user experience of the company's products. Your expertise in motion design will help clarify complex interactions, guide user attention, communicate system status, and add a touch of craft to every interaction. You will work closely with the Product, Engineering, Product Design, and Brand teams to define a motion language that scales across the company's experiences.The ideal candidate will have a strong portfolio showcasing interaction design and motion craft, with a focus on problem-solving, process, and outcomes. With a user-centered approach, you will design high-quality microinteractions that improve usability and delight users.
Underdog Sports is a fast-growing sports company that has built and scaled multiple games and products across fantasy sports, sports betting, and prediction markets. The company values collaboration, innovation, and a passion for sports, and is looking for a talented Senior Product Designer to join its team.
What You Will Do
- Collaborate on and lead motion design across the product, defining principles, patterns, and guidelines for interaction and UI motion
- Design high-quality microinteractions, including transitions, state changes, loading/empty states, feedback, and onboarding moments
- Prototype early and often using motion-forward tools to explore interaction models and validate concepts quickly
- Partner deeply with engineers to ensure motion is implemented accurately, efficiently, and accessibly
- Create reusable motion components and contribute to the design system, including tokens, curves/easing, durations, and choreography rules
- Improve product comprehension with motion that communicates hierarchy, cause/effect, and status
- Use research and data to evaluate motion effectiveness, including comprehension, conversion, time-to-complete, and error reduction
- Mentor designers and up-level motion craft across the team via reviews, critiques, and workshops
- Collaborate with the Brand/Marketing team to ensure motion feels cohesive across product and storytelling surfaces
What We Are Looking For
- 3-5 years of product design experience, with a strong emphasis on motion design in shipped digital products
- A portfolio showcasing interaction design and motion craft, with clear problem framing, process, and outcomes
- Expert understanding of timing, easing, choreography, and narrative flow for UI motion
- Strong systems thinking, with the ability to create scalable patterns rather than one-off animations
- Deep collaboration skills with engineering, including comfort discussing implementation constraints
- Fluency in accessibility and inclusive design, including reduced motion strategies and motion-sensitivity considerations
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain why motion choices matter and align stakeholders around tradeoffs
- Experience working across web and/or mobile platforms in cross-functional teams
Nice to Have
- Experience building or maintaining a motion system within a design system, including tokens, guidelines, and governance
- Familiarity with implementation frameworks, such as Rive, Lottie, After Effects pipelines, CSS/JS animations, or Framer Motion
- Experience with complex product design and development, including multiple stakeholders and tight deadlines
