Job Description

## About the Role The Senior Quality Engineer position at LawnStarter is a remote role based in Florianópolis, Brazil, designed to elevate the quality of the company's on-demand marketplace for lawn care and outdoor services. As the company expands its services, the need for proactive quality assurance has become paramount. This role involves working closely with the engineering, product, design, and data teams to identify and mitigate risks early in the development process.

The successful candidate will be embedded across the engineering organization, reporting to the Engineering Manager, and will have a significant influence on the quality process. This includes shaping the bug process, proposing solutions to gaps in the quality process, and designing and growing the automated test coverage using Cypress.

LawnStarter has spent the last two years rebuilding its platform from the ground up, introducing new customer apps, Pro onboarding, job distribution engines, and data infrastructure. The foundation is solid, but as the company moves into expanded service verticals and dynamic pricing, the quality needs to keep pace. The role involves ensuring that quality is proactive, not reactive, and that it keeps up with the company's ambitious growth plans.

## What You Will Do - Design and grow the end-to-end and integration test suite using Cypress, focusing on expanding coverage and raising the quality floor across the platform.

  • Own the full lifecycle of bug processing, from triage to production fix, ensuring that stakeholders are informed and nothing falls through the cracks.
  • Collaborate with product managers, designers, and the data team to review requirements, raise risks early, and define what 'done' means for each feature or project.
  • Identify weaknesses in the software delivery process and propose meaningful improvements, not just documenting them.
  • Engage in exploratory testing of new features and existing flows on web and mobile devices to catch issues that automation may miss.
  • Develop and implement automated tests for new and existing features, ensuring that the test coverage is comprehensive and effective.
  • Work closely with the engineering team to ensure that quality is integrated into every stage of the development process.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest tools and methodologies in quality engineering, applying this knowledge to improve the quality process at LawnStarter.
  • Participate in code reviews and contribute to the improvement of the overall quality of the codebase.
  • Analyze test results and provide actionable insights to the development team to improve the product's quality and reliability.
## What We Are Looking For - A minimum of 5 years of experience in quality engineering or a related field, with a focus on automation and process improvement.
  • Strong experience with automated testing frameworks, preferably Cypress.
  • Proficiency in PHP (Laravel) and React/React Native, with a good understanding of how these technologies are used in the development of web and mobile applications.
  • Experience working in an Agile development environment and familiarity with Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) pipelines.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to analyze complex issues and provide effective solutions.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Experience with AI-powered tools and technologies, and a willingness to explore and implement these in the quality engineering process.
  • A bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
## Nice to Have - Experience with cloud-based technologies and infrastructure, such as AWS or Google Cloud.
  • Knowledge of containerization using Docker and orchestration using Kubernetes.
  • Familiarity with AI and machine learning concepts and their application in quality engineering.
  • Experience with test management tools and methodologies, such as TestRail or PractiTest.
  • Certification in quality engineering or a related field, such as ISTQB or CSTE.
## Benefits and Perks - Competitive salary range of $45,000 to $65,000, depending on experience.
  • Opportunity to work with a leading on-demand marketplace for lawn care and outdoor services.
  • Collaborative and dynamic work environment with a team of experienced professionals.
  • Flexible remote work arrangement, allowing for a better work-life balance.
  • Access to the latest tools and technologies in quality engineering.
  • Professional development opportunities, including training and certification programs.
  • Comprehensive health insurance package and retirement plan.
  • Generous paid time off policy, including vacation days, sick leave, and holidays.

How to Stand Out

- Ensure your portfolio includes examples of automated test suites you've designed and implemented, highlighting your experience with Cypress or similar frameworks.

  • Familiarize yourself with LawnStarter's technology stack, including PHP (Laravel) and React/React Native, to demonstrate your ability to adapt and learn.
  • Prepare to discuss your approach to exploratory testing, including how you prioritize areas of the application to test and what tools you use.
  • Be ready to provide specific examples of how you've improved the quality process in previous roles, including any metrics or outcomes that demonstrate the impact of your work.
  • Research the company's culture and values, and be prepared to discuss how your own values and work style align with those of LawnStarter.
  • Consider reaching out to current or former employees to gain insights into the company culture and the role, which can help you prepare for interviews and assess whether the company is a good fit.
