About the Role
LawnStarter is seeking a seasoned Senior Quality Engineer to join its team in Porto Alegre, Brazil. As a key member of the engineering organization, you will be responsible for making quality proactive, rather than reactive, by owning automation coverage, shaping the bug process, and partnering closely with cross-functional teams. With a strong focus on digital skills and remote work, this role offers the opportunity to work on a leading on-demand marketplace for lawn care and outdoor services.The successful candidate will report to the Engineering Manager and be embedded across the engineering organization, working closely with Product, Design, and Data teams to catch problems before they reach customers. As the company expands into new service verticals and grows its engineering team, quality needs to keep pace.
What You Will Do
- Design and grow the E2E and integration test suite using Cypress, setting the strategy and prioritizing coverage gaps
- Own the full lifecycle of bug processing, from triage to production fix, and keep stakeholders informed
- Collaborate with PMs, Designers, and the Data team to review requirements, raise risks early, and define what 'done' actually means
- Identify weaknesses in software delivery and propose solutions
- Perform exploratory testing on web and mobile across devices, catching what automation misses
- Develop and maintain automated tests for new features and existing flows
- Work closely with engineers to understand requirements and propose better solutions
- Stay up-to-date with industry trends and emerging technologies, applying this knowledge to improve quality operations
- Participate in code reviews and provide constructive feedback to engineers
- Develop and maintain technical documentation for quality processes and procedures
What We Are Looking For
- 5+ years of experience in software quality engineering, with a focus on automation and AI-powered testing
- Strong proficiency in PHP (Laravel) and React/React Native, with experience in Cypress as the primary test framework
- Experience working with cross-functional teams, including Product, Design, and Data
- Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze complex issues and propose creative solutions
- Strong understanding of software development principles, including Agile methodologies
- Experience with Claude Code and other AI-powered tools for software development
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in a remote team
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field
Nice to Have
- Experience working with on-demand marketplaces or similar platforms
- Knowledge of dynamic pricing and AI-powered features at scale
- Experience with cloud-based technologies, such as AWS or Google Cloud
- Familiarity with containerization using Docker
- Certification in software quality engineering or a related field
