Job Description

About the Role

The Senior Quality Engineer position at LawnStarter is a pivotal role in maintaining and improving the quality of their on-demand marketplace for lawn care and outdoor services, as well as their expansion into new service verticals. This role is about making quality proactive, not reactive, by driving automation, shaping the bug process, and collaborating closely with various teams. As a Senior Quality Engineer, you will report to the Engineering Manager and be embedded across the engineering organization, influencing cross-functional teams to ensure high-quality deliverables. Your day-to-day will involve a mix of strategic planning, hands-on testing, and collaboration, making this a dynamic and challenging position for the right candidate.

The engineering team at LawnStarter has been rebuilding the platform from the ground up over the last two years, implementing new technologies and features. With a solid foundation in place, the focus now is on expanding service verticals, introducing dynamic pricing, and integrating AI-powered features at scale. To keep pace with this growth, quality processes need to be robust and proactive, requiring a skilled engineer who can drive these initiatives forward.

LawnStarter operates across three brands (LawnStarter, Lawn Love, Home Gnome) on a single shared platform, using PHP (Laravel) and React/React Native, with Cypress as the primary test framework. The company also leverages Claude Code as an integral part of its engineering workflow, demonstrating a commitment to innovative tools and methodologies. This setup provides a rich environment for a quality engineer to make a significant impact.

What You Will Do

  • Design and grow the E2E and integration test suite using Cypress, setting the strategy and prioritizing coverage gaps.
  • Own the full lifecycle of bug management, from triage to production fix, ensuring smooth communication with stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with Product, Design, and Data teams to review requirements, identify potential risks, and define quality standards.
  • Identify and propose solutions for process improvements in software delivery.
  • Conduct exploratory testing on new features and existing flows across web and mobile platforms.
  • Develop and maintain automation coverage, ensuring it stays sharp as the product evolves.
  • Explore new tools and AI capabilities to enhance quality operations and automation.
  • Work closely with the engineering team to ensure quality is integrated into every stage of the development process.
  • Analyze and report on quality metrics to help inform product and engineering decisions.
  • Participate in the development of the company’s quality vision and strategy.

  • Experience with AI-powered testing tools and technologies is desirable.
  • Familiarity with agile development methodologies and version control systems like Git.
  • Strong understanding of software development principles, patterns, and practices.

Nice to Have
