About the Role

The Senior Sales Engineer position at Datadog is a critical role that combines technical expertise with sales acumen to drive business growth. As a key member of the sales team, you will be responsible for providing technical leadership and guidance to potential clients, demonstrating the value proposition of Datadog's offerings, and helping to close complex deals. Your day-to-day activities will include partnering with the sales team to articulate the Datadog value proposition, owning technical engagement with customers during the trial phase, and delivering product and technical briefings to potential clients.

The role requires a deep understanding of the technical aspects of Datadog's products and the ability to communicate this knowledge effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. You will be working closely with the sales team to identify and pursue new business opportunities, and your technical expertise will be crucial in helping to qualify and close these deals.

What You Will Do

  • Partner with the sales team to articulate the overall Datadog value proposition, vision, and strategy to customers
  • Own technical engagement with customers during the trial phase, communicating Datadog's value based on activities and working with customers on any identified issues or concerns to successful conclusion
  • Technically close complex opportunities through advanced competitive knowledge, technical skill, and credibility
  • Deliver product and technical briefings/presentations to potential clients
  • Maintain accurate notes and feedback in CRM regarding customer input, both wins and losses
  • Proactively engage and communicate with customers and Datadog business/technical teams regarding product feedback and competitive landscape
  • Collaborate with the product team to provide input on feature prioritization based on customer, competitor, and partner feedback
  • Develop and maintain a deep understanding of Datadog's products and services, including their technical capabilities and applications
  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends and competitor offerings, using this knowledge to inform sales strategies and technical discussions

What We Are Looking For

  • Passion for educating customers on observability risks that are meaningful to their business and the ability to build and execute an evaluation plan with a customer
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, with the ability to understand and articulate both the business benefits and technical advantages of Datadog's offerings
  • Experience in programming/scripting with languages such as Java, Python, Ruby, Go, Node.JS, PHP, and .NET
  • A minimum of 3+ years in a Sales Engineering or DevOps Engineering role
  • Ability to sit up to 4 hours, with frequent travel to and from client sites (up to 45% of the time)
  • Ability to travel via auto, train, or air as required
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to think creatively and outside the box
  • Experience working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously

Nice to Have

  • Experience with Datadog's products and services or similar technologies
  • Knowledge of cloud computing platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud
  • Familiarity with agile development methodologies and version control systems such as Git
  • Certification in sales engineering or a related field
