Senior Software Engineer, AI Product

## About the Role Vanta is on a mission to help businesses earn and prove trust through continuous security monitoring and verification. As a Senior Software Engineer in the AI Product team, you will play a crucial role in shaping Vanta's AI offerings, setting technical strategy, and leading projects that leverage AI to deliver smarter, faster outcomes for customers. You'll work alongside a multidisciplinary group of product engineers, machine learning engineers, product managers, designers, and security and compliance experts.

The core AI team at Vanta is dedicated to implementing, scaling, and maintaining AI-enabled product experiences that enable customers to accelerate their journey towards compliance, manage risk, and earn trust. This is a high-impact role that requires collaboration, technical expertise, and a drive to deliver customer value through AI-powered features.

## What You Will Do - Work cross-functionally to design and implement AI-powered features that integrate with Vanta's existing products and systems, focusing on delivering customer value.

• Instrument evaluations, guardrails, and monitoring, and review customer usage to continually improve the quality of AI systems.
• Collaborate with AI Platform engineers to shape foundational AI systems and tooling that accelerate product teams.
• Make pragmatic tradeoffs that consider business priorities, user experience, and a sustainable technical foundation, ensuring alignment with Vanta's overall strategy.
• Mentor engineers, champion good technical and product instincts, and model a collaborative, high-ownership engineering culture that promotes growth and innovation.
• Lead by example, demonstrating expertise in AI engineering, software development, and collaboration to drive the success of the AI Product team.
• Engage directly with users to understand their needs and preferences, informing the development of AI-powered solutions that meet users where they are.
• Participate in the development of technical strategies and roadmaps for AI product offerings, ensuring alignment with business objectives.

## What We Are Looking For - At least 7 years of industry experience as a software engineer, with a proven track record of developing and delivering high-quality software applications.

• Experience shipping LLM-backed products and familiarity with prompting, RAG, and/or agent frameworks, demonstrating expertise in AI engineering.
• Strong background in designing, building, and scaling full-stack applications, including backend systems, APIs, and frontend interfaces, with familiarity with TypeScript, React, and Node.js.
• Experience improving AI systems, creating eval sets, and driving quality hill-climbing, with a focus on continuous improvement and innovation.
• Proven ability to mentor other engineers and collaborate with product and design teams, promoting a culture of collaboration and growth.
• Experience working in rapidly scaling startups and large companies, especially in environments that prioritize a bias for action and rapid iteration.
• Strong technical and product instincts, with the ability to prioritize building a platform that meets users' needs and delivers value.

## Nice to Have - Experience with cloud-based technologies and distributed systems, demonstrating adaptability and a willingness to learn new technologies.

• Familiarity with security and compliance principles, and experience working in a regulated industry, showing an understanding of the importance of security in AI product development.
• Participation in open-source projects or personal coding projects that demonstrate expertise and passion for AI engineering and software development.
