About the Role

The Senior Software Engineer position at Atom Computing represents a rare opportunity to work at the forefront of a technological revolution. As a key member of the software engineering team, you'll play a critical role in developing and maintaining the platforms and applications that give customers access to our quantum computers. Your work will span the full stack, from quantum job compilation and quantum error correction to instrument calibration and experimental data management. You'll collaborate closely with a talented team of engineers and physicists, reporting to the Software Engineering Manager, to accelerate the development of our next-generation systems.

What You Will Do

  • Develop and maintain public API features and open-source SDKs for running customer-provided jobs on our quantum hardware and simulators
  • Develop and maintain infrastructure for automating system tuning and calibration
  • Develop and maintain software for scheduling the execution and analyzing the results of quantum algorithms
  • Collaborate with our Quantum Engineers to write idiomatic, tested, and extensible code for executing experiments and algorithms on our quantum hardware
  • Work closely with the software engineering team to design, develop, and deploy new features and applications
  • Participate in code reviews and contribute to the improvement of the overall codebase
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation for internal and external use
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest developments in quantum computing and software engineering, applying this knowledge to continuously improve our platforms and applications
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and prioritize project requirements
  • Develop and maintain automated testing frameworks to ensure the quality and reliability of our software

What We Are Looking For

  • BS or MS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or equivalent
  • Minimum 5 years of post-degree professional experience as a software engineer
  • A passion for writing software and a track record of implementing architecture-level features in complex computer systems
  • Proficiency with Python and SQL
  • Experience with a compiled language such as C++ or Rust is preferred
  • Familiarity with Git version control, automated testing, and software development best practices
  • Willingness to learn atomic, optical, laser physics, and quantum mechanics concepts required to put your work in context
  • Experience with Azure, AWS, and Terraform, JavaScript, UI/UX design for web apps, and a background in physics are welcome, but not required
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in a remote team environment

Nice to Have

  • Experience with quantum computing or a related field
  • Familiarity with quantum algorithms and their implementation
  • Knowledge of machine learning or artificial intelligence concepts
  • Experience with DevOps practices and tools such as Docker, Kubernetes
  • Participation in open-source software projects or personal coding projects
