About the Role
As a Senior Software Engineer on the Billing team at Sentry, you will be at the forefront of developing and scaling the company's core billing infrastructure. This role is pivotal in ensuring the accuracy and reliability of Sentry's billing systems, which are crucial for maintaining customer trust and driving company revenue. What You Will Do
- Collaborate on building the next generation of Sentry's usage tracking pipeline to process massive volumes of events with low latency and financial-grade accuracy.
- Design flexible pricing primitives to support a wide range of billing models, from per-event usage to complex enterprise contracts.
- Contribute to technical decisions on data consistency challenges, such as handling event delays, retroactive pricing changes, and distributed count reconciliation.
- Work closely with the product team to enable rapid experimentation with new pricing models and products.
- Partner with the sales team to understand customer needs and feedback, informing the development of billing systems.
- Collaborate with the BizOps team to ensure that billing systems are aligned with business objectives and financial planning.
- Develop and maintain tools and systems to support the billing process, including data analytics and reporting.
- Participate in code reviews and contribute to the improvement of the team's engineering practices.
- Mentor junior engineers and contribute to the growth and development of the team.
What We Are Looking For
- Experience in building or significantly improving systems with high-stakes accuracy requirements.
- Proven track record of mentoring engineers through complex, high-stakes projects.
- Experience operating services where reliability includes both uptime and financial correctness.
- Strong background in software engineering, with a focus on distributed systems.
- Experience with languages such as Python, Java, or similar.
- Knowledge of database systems and data modeling.
- Understanding of financial systems and billing processes.
- Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to approach complex problems systematically.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, with experience working in cross-functional teams.
