About the Role
As a Senior Software Engineer at Bright Data, you will be part of a dynamic team working on cutting-edge browser research, focusing on modifying and extending Chromium and WebKit for data extraction and research purposes. Your day-to-day activities will involve delving into the intricacies of browser engines, navigating large codebases, and making precise, targeted changes to unlock new capabilities. This role matters because it sits at the intersection of several critical technologies, including browser engineering, systems programming, and data extraction. Your contributions will directly impact the company's ability to collect and analyze large-scale data, driving insights that inform business decisions. You will be working closely with engineers, researchers, and product teams to rapidly prototype and ship high-quality changes, which means excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively in a global team are essential.What You Will Do
- Modify and extend Chromium/WebKit source code for research and data extraction use cases
- Build, debug, and reverse-engineer browser engines, internals, and protocols across platforms
- Customize, patch, and rebase a Chromium fork and track upstream changes
- Collaborate with engineers, researchers, and product teams to prototype and ship changes
- Work on resolving large conflicting merges and managing patch/rebase for forks
- Utilize debugging and tooling such as Visual Studio, WinDbg, ETW/xperf, and ProcMon
- Engage in crash dump triage across processes and manage the debugging process
- Contribute to the development and improvement of browser automation and security research
- Participate in the review of code changes and ensure high-quality coding standards
- Collaborate on the design and implementation of new features and improvements
What We Are Looking For
- At least 5+ years of hands-on C++ experience, with proficiency in navigating large codebases and making precise changes
- Strong understanding of software architecture in large-scale, cross-platform systems
- Deep knowledge of web protocols and browser internals, including HTTP/2/3, TLS, CDP, and JavaScript engines
- Experience with security research, reverse engineering, or browser automation
- Familiarity with open-source contributions, especially those related to browser or devtools
- Knowledge of Chromium and experience working with its architecture and tools
- Experience with build tools like depot_tools, GN/Ninja/Siso, and architecture models such as multi-process, Blink/V8, sandbox, and Crashpad
- Familiarity with debugging tools and methodologies for complex software systems
Nice to Have
- Experience with Linux containers such as Docker, containerd, or LXC
- Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and their implementation
- Familiarity with security hygiene practices, including sandboxing, AppContainer, and mitigation policies
- Basic understanding of Node.js and JavaScript
