About the Role
The Senior Software Engineer, macOS Specialist role at Datadog is an exciting opportunity to design and build cutting-edge features that bring deep observability and performance insights to users on macOS. As a member of the Windows and Mac Products team, you will be driving Datadog's expansion into End User Device Monitoring (EUDM) and the Digital Employee Experience (DEX) space. Your mission will be to provide IT Administrators and Enterprise Ops teams with a single pane of glass to manage fleet health through robust, out-of-the-box observability for Windows and macOS.The team is responsible for building native, low-level telemetry tools that treat Windows and macOS as a first-class platform, ensuring feature parity and operational excellence across every layer of the stack. This approach delivers deep visibility into critical issues without requiring the deployment of additional agents or libraries. As a Senior Software Engineer and macOS Specialist, you will play a key role in shaping the future of observability across Apple endpoints, from individual devices to large-scale enterprise environments.

What You Will Do
- Design, implement, and share ownership of macOS Agent-based integrations to collect data for system, network, and security monitoring
- Leverage macOS native system technologies to design and build comprehensive observability features integrated with the macOS platform
- Lead new feature development end-to-end, from ideation and researching Apple framework changes to implementation and deployment across diverse enterprise fleets
- Solve unique challenges at the intersection of system programming, distributed telemetry, and endpoint observability and security
- Investigate bottlenecks and write optimized, resource-efficient software to ensure deep visibility without impacting battery life or user productivity
- Influence or drive product decisions, plan upcoming high-impact projects, and mentor other engineers across macOS initiatives
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration of macOS features with other Datadog products
- Develop and maintain technical documentation for macOS-related features and components
- Participate in code reviews and ensure that the team's codebase is maintainable, efficient, and follows best practices
What We Are Looking For
- 5+ years of experience building systems-level applications and tooling, with a strong understanding of OS internals, system architecture, and runtime behavior
- Proven track record of shipping software on macOS at scale
- Hands-on experience with native macOS APIs and system-level capabilities, with a strong understanding of Apple's platform requirements
- Experience working with system-level macOS services and components, such aslaunchd, sysctl, and Core Services
- Strong understanding of computer systems, networks, and security fundamentals
- Experience with Agile development methodologies and version control systems like Git
- Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze complex issues and develop creative solutions
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams
Nice to Have
- Experience with Excel, particularly in data analysis and visualization
- Knowledge of cloud-based technologies, such as AWS or Azure
- Familiarity with containerization technologies, such as Docker
- Experience with continuous integration and continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines
- Certification in macOS development or a related field
