About the Role
The Senior Software Engineer, Platform role at Airbyte is a key position that focuses on developing and improving the company's data replication and job lifecycle systems. As a member of the Data Replication team, you will be responsible for designing, building, and maintaining the Control and Data Plane systems that handle configuration, job lifecycle, and load scaling. The team is responsible for running over 3 million sync jobs a week across multiple regions and clouds, making scalability and reliability crucial.The ideal candidate will have a strong background in software engineering, with expertise in JVM/Kotlin and hands-on experience building and operating large-scale distributed systems. Familiarity with orchestration frameworks, such as Temporal-style workflows, and experience running services using Kubernetes with Helm on major cloud providers are also essential.

What You Will Do
- Improve and scale cloud data replication and job lifecycle systems to support the growth of Airbyte Cloud
- Automate platform operations across OSS, Enterprise, and Cloud, including deployment validation, release qualification, and environment testing
- Build high-leverage internal tooling to help the team ship connector and CDK changes faster
- Develop AI-powered tooling for connector generation and incident response
- Improve observability and debugging tools for both Airbyte engineers and customers
- Collaborate with platform and cloud infrastructure teams on cross-cutting technical decisions
- Mentor engineers through design reviews, pairing, and technical feedback
- Contribute to the development of Airbyte's data infrastructure, including the design and implementation of new features and functionality
- Participate in on-call rotations and be responsible for resolving technical issues and incidents
What We Are Looking For
- 7+ years of engineering experience in backend, platform, or distributed systems with strong proficiency in JVM/Kotlin
- Hands-on experience building and operating large-scale distributed systems
- Familiarity with orchestration frameworks, such as Temporal-style workflows
- Experience running services using Kubernetes with Helm on major cloud providers
- Systems-level thinking with an emphasis on performance, reliability, cost, and scalability
- Comfortable with ambiguity, moving fast, and owning problems end-to-end
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams
- Experience with open-source platforms, especially in data integration or infrastructure tooling
- Familiarity with Airbyte, CDKs, or connector-based architectures
