About the Role
The Senior Software Engineer - SDK position at Amplitude is a unique opportunity for a skilled engineer to join a team that is redefining the way developers interact with software development kits. As a key member of the SDK team, you will be responsible for building and maintaining SDKs across multiple languages, leveraging AI to accelerate development and improve the overall developer experience. The role entails working closely with cross-functional teams to drive the adoption of Amplitude's products and ensuring that the SDKs are optimized for performance, latency, and bundle size.The SDK team at Amplitude is known for its innovative approach to development, using AI to scale SDK development and build systems that allow a small team to maintain many SDKs. As a Senior Software Engineer - SDK, you will have the autonomy to own the developer experience end-to-end, from building and maintaining SDKs to creating external-facing agents that take advantage of the signals collected by the SDKs.
What You Will Do
- Build and maintain SDKs across multiple languages, including TypeScript/JavaScript, Python, Go, Java, Swift, and Rust
- Use AI to scale SDK development and improve the overall developer experience
- Own the developer experience end-to-end, from building and maintaining SDKs to creating external-facing agents
- Optimize SDKs for latency, performance, bundle size, and resource load
- Create external-facing agents that take advantage of the signals collected by the SDKs
- Build integrations with third-party services to drive adoption of Amplitude's products
- Drive high engineering standards while knowing when speed beats perfection
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive the adoption of Amplitude's products
- Participate in code reviews and ensure that the codebase is maintainable, efficient, and easy to understand
- Stay up-to-date with the latest trends and technologies in software development and apply that knowledge to improve the SDKs and the overall developer experience
What We Are Looking For
- Experience building SDKs, APIs, or developer platforms
- Open-source library maintainership or significant contributions to open-source projects
- Experience across multiple language ecosystems
- Interest in developer experience and tooling
- Experience building platform tooling or code generation systems
- Strong understanding of software development principles, including design patterns, testing, and deployment
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to debug complex issues
- Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams
- Experience with AI-assisted development and a passion for innovation
Nice to Have
- Experience with cloud-based technologies, such as AWS or Google Cloud
- Knowledge of containerization using Docker and Kubernetes
- Experience with agile development methodologies and version control systems, such as Git
- Familiarity with product analytics and the company's products
- Participation in open-source projects or communities related to software development
