Senior Staff Data Scientist - Consumer Experimentation
WFA Digital Insight
As demand for data scientists with expertise in experimentation methodology continues to grow, Reddit is poised to innovate and expand its consumer data science capabilities. With over 126 million daily active users, the company requires a senior data scientist who can thrive in a complex, networked environment. The role is particularly interesting in the current remote job market, where companies are seeking specialists who can drive product insights through rigorous experimental design and analysis. Candidates should be aware that expertise in Excel, causal inference, and experimentation design is highly valued, and the ability to communicate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders is essential. According to recent market trends, demand for data scientists with expertise in machine learning and causal inference has grown significantly, making this a highly competitive role.
Job Description
About the Role
The Senior Staff Data Scientist position at Reddit is a unique opportunity to lead the development of experimentation methodology and causal inference across the Consumer organization. As a senior technical leader, you will be responsible for tackling the most complex experimentation challenges and driving product insights through rigorous experimental design and analysis. You will work closely with cross-functional teams, including product, engineering, and design, to develop and implement experimentation frameworks that account for ecosystem-level effects. The role entails developing and advancing methods for causal inference in settings where standard randomization assumptions are violated, such as cluster-randomized designs, switchback experiments, and synthetic control approaches. You will also design experimentation frameworks and guardrail metrics that account for network effects and interference, ensuring that product teams can measure true causal impact rather than biased local estimates.
Reddit's experimentation landscape presents uniquely challenging problems, and the company requires a senior data scientist who can thrive in this environment. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of causal inference, experimentation design, and data analysis, as well as excellent communication and collaboration skills.
What You Will Do
- Serve as the technical authority on experimentation methodology across Consumer, setting standards for design, analysis, and interpretation of experiments in a complex, networked environment
- Tackle the hardest experimentation problems at Reddit, including spillover and network effects, interference between treatment and control, two-sided experimentation, and long-run effect estimation
- Develop and advance methods for causal inference in settings where standard randomization assumptions are violated, such as cluster-randomized designs, switchback experiments, and synthetic control approaches
- Design experimentation frameworks and guardrail metrics that account for ecosystem-level effects, ensuring product teams can measure true causal impact rather than biased local estimates
- Identify opportunities where improved experimentation methodology can unlock product insights that were previously unmeasurable or ambiguous
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including product, engineering, and design, to develop and implement experimentation frameworks
- Develop and maintain documentation of experimentation methodologies and results
- Present findings and insights to senior leadership and product teams, and influence product strategy through rigorous experimental design and analysis
- Stay up-to-date with industry trends and advancements in causal inference and experimentation methodology
