About the Role

Reddit is a community-driven platform with over 100,000 active communities and 126 million daily active unique visitors. As a Senior Staff Data Scientist on the Consumer team, you will play a key role in developing and improving the company's relevance metrics and evaluation methodology. Your primary focus will be on understanding how users interact with the platform and identifying opportunities to enhance their experience through data-driven insights.

The Consumer team is responsible for developing and maintaining the algorithms that power Reddit's feeds, search results, and recommendations. As a senior technical leader, you will work closely with the Feeds and Search ML teams to tackle complex ranking, recommendation, and retrieval challenges. Your expertise in data analysis and metrics development will be crucial in shaping the company's approach to understanding content quality and defining the metrics that guide relevance improvements.

What You Will Do

  • Serve as the technical authority on relevance metrics and evaluation methodology across Consumer
  • Develop metrics frameworks and offline evaluation approaches for ranking and recommendation systems
  • Design and analyze experiments for relevance features, accounting for challenges unique to networked platforms
  • Identify opportunities where improved measurement and analysis can drive business outcomes
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to integrate data insights into product development
  • Develop and maintain large-scale data pipelines and architectures
  • Collaborate with engineers to implement and optimize data-driven solutions
  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends and emerging technologies in data science and machine learning

What We Are Looking For

  • 5+ years of experience in data science, with a focus on consumer relevance and data analysis
  • Expertise in developing and evaluating metrics for ranking and recommendation systems
  • Strong understanding of machine learning algorithms and statistical modeling techniques
  • Experience working with large-scale data sets and distributed computing systems
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Java, or C++
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work with cross-functional teams
  • Experience with data visualization tools and techniques
