Job Description

About the Role

The Senior Staff Engineer role at Turing is a unique opportunity to lead the development of a new generation of AI-first vetting systems that improve talent integrity, capability assessment, and hiring experience at scale. This role sits at the intersection of platform engineering, applied AI, product thinking, and execution, requiring a highly capable engineering leader who can architect and build durable systems that support multiple products and use cases over time. The right person will not just ship isolated features but build systems that can evolve with the company's growing needs.

Turing's vetting platform is designed to power how top global talent gets discovered, evaluated, and hired. The company is looking for someone who can take ownership of building and scaling core components of this platform, with an initial focus on AI Interviewer, task-based vetting platform, and fraud and integrity checks. This is a critical role that requires strong systems design skills, the ability to think in platforms and reusable abstractions, and a product instinct that balances architecture quality with business speed.

The Senior Staff Engineer will be part of a team that is pushing the boundaries of what is possible with AI in talent acquisition. The role involves partnering closely with Product, Design, Data, and Operations to translate ambiguous business problems into scalable technical systems. It requires a leader who can mentor engineers, drive high-impact initiatives end-to-end across cross-functional stakeholders, and establish technical direction and engineering standards for a fast-moving, AI-forward organization.

What You Will Do

  • Build and scale core components of Turing's vetting platform, focusing on AI Interviewer, task-based vetting, and fraud and integrity checks.
  • Design platform-level systems with an emphasis on extensibility, reuse, and long-term maintainability.
  • Partner with Product, Design, Data, and Operations to translate business problems into technical systems.
  • Lead architecture and implementation for high-scale, high-reliability user-facing and internal workflows.
  • Improve system quality across UX, performance, observability, and developer velocity.
  • Establish technical direction and engineering standards for the organization.
  • Mentor engineers to raise the bar on engineering craftsmanship, systems thinking, and speed of execution.
  • Operate in ambiguous environments and convert evolving requirements into clean technical approaches.
  • Balance architecture quality with business speed, ensuring that solutions are both scalable and meet immediate needs.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive the adoption of new technologies and practices.
  • Foster a culture of innovation, experimentation, and continuous learning within the engineering team.

What We Are Looking For

  • 8+ years of software engineering experience, with strong depth in backend/platform systems.
  • Experience building and scaling complex product or platform systems used in production.
  • Strong systems design skills, with the ability to think in platforms, primitives, and reusable abstractions.
  • Proven ability to operate in ambiguous environments and convert evolving requirements into clean technical approaches.
  • Strong product instinct and user empathy, able to balance architecture quality with business speed.
  • Experience working on workflow systems, evaluation platforms, marketplaces, trust & safety, identity/fraud, or AI-powered products.
  • Familiarity with modern AI/LLM-powered systems and the ability to apply them pragmatically in production workflows.
  • Track record of driving high-impact initiatives end-to-end across cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Strong communication skills and a high-ownership mindset.
  • Ability to mentor engineers and raise the bar on engineering craftsmanship, systems thinking, and speed of execution.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with cloud-based architectures and microservices.
  • Knowledge of containerization using Docker and orchestration using Kubernetes.
  • Familiarity with agile development methodologies and version control systems like Git.
  • Experience with continuous integration and continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines.
  • Knowledge of security best practices and compliance standards.

Benefits and Perks

  • Competitive salary and equity package.
  • Comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance.
  • Flexible PTO policy and remote work stipend.
  • Professional development budget for courses, conferences, and certifications.
  • Access to cutting-edge technologies and tools.
  • Opportunity to work on high-impact projects with a talented team of engineers and researchers.
  • Collaborative and dynamic work environment with a commitment to diversity and inclusion.
  • Recognition and reward for outstanding performance and contributions.

How to Stand Out

  • Tailor your resume: Highlight your experience with backend/platform systems, AI-powered products, and workflow systems.
  • Prepare for technical interviews: Review systems design principles, platform engineering, and AI applications in production workflows.
  • Showcase your projects: Share examples of complex systems you've built, emphasizing scalability, maintainability, and your problem-solving approach.
  • Demonstrate product thinking: Be ready to discuss how you balance technical considerations with product and business needs.
  • Research Turing's technology stack: Familiarize yourself with the company's current projects and technologies to show your interest and potential fit.
  • Practice explaining technical concepts simply: Be prepared to communicate complex technical ideas clearly and concisely to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Be ready to talk about your experience with ambiguity: Share stories of how you've handled uncertain or evolving requirements in previous roles.
