About the Role

Day-to-day, the Senior Staff Machine Learning Scientist will be deeply involved in developing novel models, algorithms, and training methodologies for challenging vision problems. This will include tasks such as image understanding, video understanding, visual search, scene representation, segmentation, detection, generation, and multimodal reasoning. The role requires a high degree of autonomy, creativity, and the ability to collaborate closely with applied scientists, ML engineers, and product teams to translate research into practical, product-ready systems.

What You Will Do

• Lead and drive ambitious research initiatives in computer vision, multimodal understanding, and visual generation to advance the state of the art.
• Develop novel models, algorithms, and training methodologies for challenging vision problems such as image understanding, video understanding, visual search, scene representation, segmentation, detection, generation, and multimodal reasoning.
• Translate cutting-edge research into practical model improvements that can shape product direction and unlock new user experiences.
• Design, implement, train, and optimize large-scale vision and multimodal foundation models across diverse datasets and tasks.
• Partner closely with applied scientists, ML engineers, and product teams to move research from exploration to production-ready systems.
• Set technical direction for high-impact research areas, identifying promising bets and influencing longer-term strategy for vision and multimodal AI.
• Mentor other scientists and engineers, raising the quality bar for research and helping build a strong scientific culture across the team.
• Stay at the forefront of research in computer vision, multimodal learning, generative modeling, and foundation models, and apply emerging techniques to real-world problems.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate research into product development and ensure alignment with business objectives.

What We Are Looking For

• BA/BS degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
• Significant experience in machine learning, with a focus on computer vision, multimodal understanding, and visual generation.
• Proven track record of driving research initiatives and translating them into practical, product-ready systems.
• Strong background in developing and optimizing large-scale machine learning models and algorithms.
• Experience working with diverse datasets and tasks, particularly in the context of vision and multimodal understanding.
• Excellent collaboration and mentoring skills, with the ability to work closely with scientists, engineers, and product teams.
• Strong understanding of the current research landscape in computer vision, multimodal learning, and generative modeling.
• Experience with remote work and a self-motivated, disciplined approach to work.

Nice to Have

• Advanced degree (MS or Ph.D.) in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
• Experience with cloud-based infrastructure and containerization (e.g., Docker).
• Knowledge of Webflow's products and technologies, or similar digital experience platforms.
• Participation in open-source projects or personal projects related to machine learning and computer vision.
• Experience with Agile development methodologies and version control systems (e.g., Git).
