About the Role
As a Senior Staff Product Designer, Finance at Gusto, you will be at the forefront of defining the user experience for the company's financial products. Your role will involve setting the UX vision and strategy across four interconnected product areas: Business Money, Consumer Money, Payments, and Risk. You will be responsible for identifying opportunities and systemic gaps that span the full financial experience and driving the work that makes Gusto's financial products clear, trustworthy, and empowering for hundreds of thousands of small businesses and their employees.The design challenge is significant, as you will need to balance the need for speed and innovation with the requirement for trust and reliability in financial products. You will work closely with cross-functional partners in Product, Engineering, Data, and Marketing to design, build, and ship experiences that make a real difference. Your expertise in AI-native design will be crucial in helping to drive the development of Gusto's financial platform.

You will have the opportunity to develop other designers, contribute to platform patterns that scale beyond the Money and Risk teams, and step in as a direct IC on the highest-priority projects.
What You Will Do
- Define the long-term UX vision for Gusto's financial products, connecting financial and trust experiences across teams
- Identify and drive high-impact opportunities that no single team could tackle alone
- Shape product strategy alongside product directors and engineering leaders
- Develop and execute design plans that meet business objectives and user needs
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design, build, and ship experiences that make a real difference
- Use AI tools to prototype ideas quickly, shorten customer feedback loops, and ship quality UX directly to customers
- Contribute to the development of Gusto's AI-native design organization
- Mentor and develop other designers to help them grow in their roles
- Participate in design critiques and provide constructive feedback to peers
- Stay up-to-date with industry trends and emerging technologies in AI and design
What We Are Looking For
- 8+ years of experience in product design, with a focus on financial products or related fields
- Portfolio that showcases your expertise in UX design, interaction design, and visual design
- Experience with AI-native design tools and technologies
- Strong understanding of human-centered design principles and design thinking
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams
- Ability to balance multiple priorities and projects in a fast-paced environment
- Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to think creatively and outside the box
- Experience with design systems and platform patterns
- Knowledge of front-end development principles and technologies
