Senior Staff Software Engineer, Backend (Consumer - Financial Services and Loyalty)

## About the Role The Senior Staff Software Engineer will play a critical role in defining the technical vision and strategy for Coinbase's Financial Services and Loyalty (FS&L) team. This team is responsible for developing high-impact products such as payments, credit cards, on-chain borrowing and lending, staking, and CB One subscription, serving millions of users. The successful candidate will lead multi-quarter, cross-organizational initiatives, drive architectural cohesion across the diverse product suite, and ensure high-throughput systems are scalable and reliable. The role requires a deeply technical leader who can mentor and coach other senior engineers, drive developer productivity, and advocate for new tooling and AI adoption. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of funds flow, reconciliation, and invariants, as well as experience in architecting and building high-throughput, low-latency financial systems. • Architect and build mission-critical financial systems with a focus on funds flow, reconciliation, and invariants.
• Drive developer productivity by advocating for new tooling and AI adoption.
• Mentor and coach team members to foster growth and technical excellence.
• Partner with Product/Engineering leaders to align on long-term product and engineering strategy.
• Lead the creation of reusable platforms for adoption across Coinbase.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration of new products and features.
• Develop and maintain technical documentation to ensure knowledge sharing across the organization.

## What We Are Looking For - 10+ years of software engineering experience in large-scale distributed systems.

• Deep expertise in payments or traditional finance.
• Demonstrated experience in architecting and building high-throughput, low-latency financial systems.
• Strong understanding of funds flow, reconciliation, and invariants.
• Proven ability to lead complex, cross-organizational initiatives and drive architectural cohesion.
• Strong mentoring skills and a passion for leveling up teammates.
• Experience working on consumer products with a bias towards strong design and UX.
• Excellent communication and project management skills.

## Nice to Have - Experience with Go or other performant backend languages.
