Job Description

About the Role

The Senior Technical Account Manager is a critical role at Affirm, responsible for the technical success of the company's largest merchants post-sale. This involves advising developers, product teams, and key business partners throughout the entire customer lifecycle. The ideal candidate will be able to implement Affirm's products into merchants' existing architecture and continue to work with them as they scale. This role is part of the Engineering Team and works closely with Affirm's Product, Operations, Customer Success, and Merchant Help teams.

The Technical Account Manager will be the technical expert and trusted advisor for their assigned merchants, building strong relationships and driving long-term success. This role requires a unique blend of technical expertise, communication skills, and strategic thinking. The ability to lead important client relationships, manage complex technical issues, and provide early feedback to engineering and product teams is essential.

As a key member of the Engineering Team, the Senior Technical Account Manager will work closely with cross-functional teams to drive technical innovation and excellence. What You Will Do

  • Lead the technical relationships for a named set of merchants within a vertical or category
  • Manage and provide technical guidance for new merchant integrations, reducing risk and driving new feature and product adoption
  • Support clients through their lifetime as Affirm partners, quickly resolving critical technical issues and quarterbacking multi-departmental efforts
  • Provide early feedback to engineering and product teams while iterating on new products
  • Identify areas to improve operational efficiencies and onboard merchants more quickly
  • Develop and maintain a deep understanding of Affirm's products and technology
  • Collaborate with internal teams to drive technical innovation and excellence
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including merchants, developers, and product teams
  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends and emerging technologies, applying this knowledge to drive technical success

What We Are Looking For

  • 5+ years of experience as a Technical Account Manager, Solutions Engineer, or other customer-facing technical role
  • Comfortable reading code in at least two programming languages
  • Exceptional communication skills, with a deep command of the written word
  • Confidence and fluency when discussing technical concepts with developers
  • Validated ability to lead important client relationships
  • Strong project management skills, capable of influencing internal and external partners to stay on schedule
  • Bachelor's degree with a record of pushing yourself academically or equivalent practical experience
  • Experience working with large merchants or complex technical systems
  • Strong understanding of web/mobile application architecture
  • Familiarity with the payments ecosystem

Nice to Have

  • Degree in a technical major (Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering, etc.) or bootcamp grad
  • Familiarity with web/mobile application architecture
  • Comfortable writing code in at least one language
  • Experience working with cloud-based technologies or scalable systems
