What You Will Do
- Develop, grow, and maintain a diversified book of inland marine business through new account acquisitions and renewal strategies.
- Conduct thorough risk assessments to determine policy premiums, conditions, and limits.
- Build and nurture strong relationships with agents, brokers, and internal stakeholders to drive business growth and improve profitability.
- Negotiate deals and present proposals to agents, brokers, and clients, ensuring alignment with business objectives.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including underwriting, operations, and sales, to drive business outcomes.
- Stay abreast of market trends, regulatory changes, and emerging risks to adapt underwriting strategies accordingly.
- Mentor junior underwriters in technical and professional development, fostering a culture of knowledge sharing and continuous improvement.
- Document account reviews, state-compliant sign-offs, referrals, letters of authority, and follow underwriting guidelines diligently.
- Identify opportunities for process improvements and contribute to the development of best practices within the underwriting team.
What We Are Looking For
- 3-5+ years of relevant experience in underwriting, preferably in inland marine or a related field.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving capabilities, and excellent communication skills.
- Experience with multi-line insurance products and a thorough understanding of commercial insurance principles.
- Ability to manage territories effectively, with a focus on building rewarding relationships with agents, brokers, and peers.
- Command of insurance finance and actuarial concepts, as well as familiarity with regulatory issues in relevant territories.
- Bachelor's degree in a related field; Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) or other professional insurance designations are preferred.
- Proficiency in Excel and other relevant software tools.
- Ability to travel occasionally, primarily to Arizona for in-person agency visits.
