Job Description

About the Role

The Senior UX Researcher will play a crucial role in extending Wikimedia's capabilities in qualitative and quantitative research, focusing on understanding the experiences and needs of Wikipedia users and contributors. As part of the Research group, the UX Research team leads UX research efforts to improve user experiences and increase global usage. This contract position, covering a staff leave, is expected to be primarily quantitative but may also include some qualitative research projects or components.

The role entails working closely with the Manager, UX Research, and another researcher on the team to scope project work, manage research operations, and execute high-quality research that results in actionable insights. The ideal candidate will have experience leading research projects from start to finish, collaborating with product teams, and communicating complex research findings to stakeholders.

What You Will Do

  • Coordinate work with the UX Research team, stakeholders, and the point of contact to drive and support research projects
  • Support the UX Research point of contact in scoping projects, determining project goals, methodologies, logistics, and timelines
  • Develop a deep understanding of the product, its context, and research objectives
  • Manage and execute all phases of the research process, including creating materials, coordinating research operations, overseeing participant recruitment, and conducting analysis and report-writing
  • Deliver comprehensive research results, translating findings into actionable insights that inform product and decisions
  • Communicate research findings and recommendations to stakeholders in clear and compelling ways
  • Collaborate with the UX Research point of contact to prioritize research projects and allocate resources effectively
  • Develop and maintain research plans, timelines, and budgets
  • Identify and mitigate potential risks and biases in research design and execution

What We Are Looking For

  • 5+ years of experience as a UX Researcher, with expertise in leading projects end-to-end using quantitative research methodologies
  • Strong understanding of statistical analysis, data visualization, and research design
  • Experience with qualitative research methodologies, such as interviews, contextual inquiry, and diary studies
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate complex research findings to non-technical stakeholders
  • Experience working collaboratively with product teams to translate insights into actionable recommendations
  • Strong time-management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Self-sufficiency and ability to resolve what blocks your work or escalate as needed
  • Experience with research tools and software, such as survey platforms, data analysis tools, and usability testing software

Nice to Have

  • Experience with machine learning, natural language processing, or other advanced analytics techniques
  • Knowledge of Wikipedia's content policies, guidelines, and community norms
  • Familiarity with Wikimedia's technology stack and development processes
  • Experience working with remote teams and stakeholders across different time zones
