Job Description

About the Role

The Senior UX Researcher role at Wikimedia is a 3-month contract position that plays a critical part in extending the company's capabilities in qualitative and quantitative research. As a key member of the Research group, the UX Research team leads UX research to improve user experiences and increase global usage. This role will involve working closely with the Manager, UX Research, and another researcher on the team to drive and support research projects.

The UX Research team is responsible for leading UX research with the goal of informing product decisions and improving user experiences. The team has recently conducted a survey-based experimental study of attribution signals and a mixed-method study to understand Wikipedia readers' use cases. As a Senior UX Researcher, you will be responsible for leading the execution of high-quality research that results in actionable insights.

The role is expected to be primarily quantitative, but may also include some qualitative research projects or components. You will be working on a part-time basis, with an expected average of 30 hours per week. Availability for critical meetings and synchronous work between 15:00 to 19:00 UTC is required.

What You Will Do

  • Coordinate work with the point of contact in the UX Research team, the rest of the team, and stakeholders to drive and support research projects
  • Support the UX Research point of contact in scoping projects as requested, including determining project goals, methodologies, logistics, and timelines
  • Develop an understanding of the product, its context, and the research objectives
  • Coordinate with the UX Research point of contact to manage and execute all phases of the research process
  • Create materials, coordinate research operations, oversee participant recruitment/survey distribution, schedule and run research sessions, and collect and analyze data
  • Deliver comprehensive research results, translating findings into actionable insights that can inform product and decisions
  • Communicate research findings and recommendations to stakeholders in clear and compelling ways
  • Work collaboratively with product teams to translate insights into actionable recommendations
  • Lead research projects from start to finish, both solo and in collaboration with others

What We Are Looking For

  • 5+ years of experience as a UX Researcher
  • Expertise leading projects end-to-end using quantitative research methodologies, such as surveys, large-scale unmoderated testing, and quantitative UX benchmarking studies
  • Experience with leading projects end-to-end using qualitative research methodologies, such as interviews, contextual inquiry, and diary studies
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience working collaboratively with product teams to translate insights into actionable recommendations
  • Strong time-management skills and self-sufficiency
  • Ability to resolve what blocks your work or escalate when necessary
  • Experience with statistical analysis and data visualization

Nice to Have

  • Experience with UX design tools, such as Sketch, Figma, or Adobe XD
  • Knowledge of front-end development principles and coding languages, such as HTML, CSS, or JavaScript
  • Experience with project management tools, such as Asana, Trello, or Jira
