About the Role

The Specialist Accountant & Program Manager role at Equinix is a unique opportunity to combine accounting expertise with program management skills, supporting the buildout of the company's xScale AI data centers. As a key member of the global xScale Controllership team, you will play a critical role in driving process improvements, enhancing data quality, and ensuring accounting activities operate efficiently. This temporary role is part of the Department of Defense SkillBridge program, providing hands-on experience for military service members and spouses transitioning to the civilian workforce.

The xScale AI data center project is a critical component of Equinix's strategy to support the rapid growth of hyperscale customers. As a specialist accountant and program manager, you will be responsible for reviewing and redesigning core accounting processes, identifying inefficiencies, and implementing solutions that streamline work and reduce manual effort. This role requires a strong understanding of accounting principles, excellent analytical skills, and the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams.

What You Will Do

  • Partner with team members and functional leads across xScale Controllership to understand current processes and identify areas for improvement
  • Map end-to-end accounting workflows for key processes, documenting current-state procedures, handoffs, controls, systems, and data flows
  • Identify process bottlenecks, inconsistencies, and non-value-added activities, with a strong focus on root causes and areas with high manual effort or rework
  • Design future-state optimized processes that streamline work, strengthen controls, and embed a consistent 'fix-at-source' approach
  • Collaborate with functional leads to drive standardization, enhance process and data quality, and ensure accounting activities operate efficiently and consistently
  • Develop and implement solutions to improve accounting processes, reducing manual effort and promoting efficiency
  • Analyze data to identify trends, risks, and opportunities for improvement
  • Present findings and recommendations to stakeholders, both internally and externally
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including functional leads and team members
  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends, best practices, and regulatory requirements, applying this knowledge to improve accounting processes

What We Are Looking For

  • 2+ years of experience in accounting, finance, or a related field, with a strong understanding of accounting principles and practices
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify and address process inefficiencies
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams and stakeholders
  • Experience with accounting software and systems, including Excel and other financial tools
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, with a focus on innovation and customer satisfaction
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field, with a CPA or other relevant certification preferred
  • Experience working in a global technology environment, with a focus on hyperscale computing and AI

Nice to Have

  • Experience with process improvement methodologies, such as Lean or Six Sigma
  • Knowledge of data analytics and data visualization tools, such as Tableau or Power BI
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams, including sales, marketing, and product development
  • Familiarity with cloud-based accounting systems and tools
  • Certification in accounting or a related field, such as a CPA or CMA
