Job Description

About the Role

The Narrative Refinery, a boutique social media strategy and content production agency, is seeking a skilled Social Media Content Editor to manage content editing for four design-conscious clients. This part-time, project-based contract offers the opportunity to work with a variety of brands, each with its unique aesthetic and audience. The role begins with an onboarding call in early July, where the agency owner will walk you through the brands, briefs, file systems, and exact scope of the project.

As the Social Media Content Editor, you will be responsible for turning raw photo and video assets into polished, postable content for Instagram, TikTok, and Facebook. Your ability to match each client's existing branding, guidelines, and content style will be crucial in delivering high-quality, engaging assets. The agency owner will be on-site at a major international sporting event from July 20 to early August, making reliable communication and timely delivery of your work essential.

The Narrative Refinery values proactive and self-directed individuals who can take a brief and run with it, producing top-notch content without needing step-by-step direction. If you have a passion for social-first content and can adapt to different aesthetics, this role could be the perfect fit for you.

What You Will Do

  • Edit raw photo and video assets into finished, postable content for Instagram, TikTok, and Facebook
  • Produce both static/carousel graphics and short-form video (Reels, TikToks, Stories) that align with each client's brand
  • Match each client's existing branding, guidelines, and content style by reviewing their past posts and brand documents
  • Work to provided shot lists and content briefs, with quick turnarounds across multiple brands
  • Deliver organized, clearly labeled final files ready for captioning and scheduling
  • Flag questions early and manage your own time across a steady editing load
  • Collaborate with the agency owner to ensure seamless integration of your work into the agency's workflow
  • Develop and maintain a deep understanding of each client's unique voice, tone, and audience
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest social media trends and best practices

What We Are Looking For

  • Proactive and self-directed approach to work
  • Experience specifically in social-first content, not just general graphic design
  • Ability to understand the difference between a brochure and a Reel
  • Comfort with fast turnarounds and juggling several brands at once without dropping quality
  • Skills in both graphic design and video editing
  • Ability to study a brand's past content and documents and produce new assets that fit seamlessly
  • Reliable communication and deadline management skills
  • Experience working with design-conscious brands or agencies
  • Strong understanding of social media platforms and their unique requirements
  • Ability to adapt to different aesthetics and brand voices

Nice to Have

  • Portfolio that showcases your social-first content editing skills
  • Experience working with boutique or small businesses
  • Familiarity with project management tools and software
  • Knowledge of SEO principles and how they apply to social media content

Benefits and Perks

  • Opportunity to work with a variety of design-conscious brands
  • Flexible, part-time schedule with the potential for ongoing work
  • Collaborative and supportive team environment
  • Professional development opportunities in social media content editing
  • Access to the latest design and editing software and tools
  • Remote work stipend or equipment allowance
  • Health and wellness benefits or programs
  • Paid time off or vacation days
  • Equity or profit-sharing opportunities

How to Stand Out

  • Tip: Ensure your portfolio includes a variety of social-first content examples that demonstrate your ability to adapt to different brand aesthetics.
  • To stand out, highlight your experience working with design-conscious brands or agencies, and be prepared to discuss your approach to social media content editing.
  • When applying, make sure to include specific examples of your work, such as Reels or TikToks you've edited, to showcase your skills.
  • Be prepared to discuss your experience with graphic design and video editing software, and how you stay up-to-date with the latest trends and best practices.
  • When negotiating salary, consider highlighting your ability to work independently and efficiently, and your understanding of the value you bring to the agency and its clients.
  • Red flag: If the agency or client seems unclear about their brand voice or aesthetic, it may be a sign of a larger communication issue – be sure to ask questions and clarify expectations before starting the project.
  • Tip: Show enthusiasm and passion for social-first content and the brands you'll be working with – it can go a long way in demonstrating your fit for the role and the agency's culture.
