About the Role
The Software Engineer, Data Infrastructure & Acquisition role at Speechify is a critical component of the company's AI team, responsible for all aspects of data collection to support model training operations. As a key member of the team, you will be expected to be scrappy in finding new sources of audio data and bringing it into the ingestion pipeline. With a strong focus on cloud infrastructure, you will operate and extend the existing pipeline, currently running on GCP and managed with Terraform. Collaboration with scientists and other team members is essential to shift the cost/throughput/quality frontier, delivering richer data at a bigger scale and lower cost to power next-generation models.Speechify's mission to make reading accessible to everyone has led to the development of innovative text-to-speech products, including iOS, Android, Mac, and Chrome Extension apps. What You Will Do
- Find and acquire new sources of audio data to support model training operations
- Operate and extend the cloud infrastructure for the ingestion pipeline using GCP and Terraform
- Collaborate with scientists to optimize data collection and processing workflows
- Develop and maintain large-scale data processing workflows
- Work with web crawlers to extract relevant data from various sources
- Participate in the development of the AI team's dataset roadmap
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless data integration
- Troubleshoot data pipeline issues and implement fixes
- Develop scripts to automate data processing tasks using bash/Python
- Participate in code reviews to ensure high-quality code
What We Are Looking For
- BS/MS/PhD in Computer Science or a related field
- 5+ years of industry experience in software development
- Proficiency with bash/Python scripting in Linux environments
- Experience with Docker and Infrastructure-as-Code concepts
- Professional experience with at least one major Cloud Provider (GCP, AWS, Azure)
- Strong understanding of data structures and algorithms
- Experience with large-scale data processing workflows
- Ability to handle multiple tasks and adapt to changing priorities
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
Nice to Have
- Experience with web crawlers and data extraction techniques
- Knowledge of machine learning principles and practices
- Experience with Terraform and cloud infrastructure management
- Familiarity with Agile development methodologies
- Experience working in a remote or distributed team environment
