Job Description

About the Role

The Software Engineer, Data Infrastructure & Acquisition role at Speechify is a critical position that supports the company's AI team. As a key member of the team, you will be responsible for developing and maintaining the data pipelines that fuel Speechify's text-to-speech products. This involves working closely with the scientists to design, build, and operate large-scale data infrastructure, ensuring efficient data collection, processing, and storage.

The role entails collaborating with cross-functional teams, including engineering, research, and product, to craft the AI team's dataset roadmap. This requires a deep understanding of the company's products, market trends, and customer needs. You will operate and extend the cloud infrastructure for the ingestion pipeline, currently running on GCP and managed with Terraform.

What You Will Do

  • Design, develop, and maintain large-scale data pipelines to support model training operations
  • Operate and extend the cloud infrastructure for the ingestion pipeline using GCP and Terraform
  • Collaborate with scientists to optimize data collection, processing, and storage
  • Develop and maintain data quality metrics and monitoring systems
  • Work with the AI team to craft the dataset roadmap and deliver richer data at bigger scale and lower cost
  • Participate in the development of the company's data strategy and architecture
  • Collaborate with the product team to integrate data insights into product development
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation for data infrastructure and pipelines
  • Troubleshoot data pipeline issues and optimize performance

What We Are Looking For

  • BS/MS/PhD in Computer Science or a related field
  • 5+ years of industry experience in software development, with a focus on data infrastructure and acquisition
  • Proficiency in bash/Python scripting in Linux environments
  • Experience with Docker and Infrastructure-as-Code concepts
  • Professional experience with at least one major Cloud Provider (GCP, AWS, Azure)
  • Strong understanding of data processing workflows and pipeline architecture
  • Experience with web crawlers and large-scale data processing
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and adapt to changing priorities
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal

Nice to Have

  • Experience with data quality metrics and monitoring systems
  • Knowledge of machine learning algorithms and data science principles
  • Familiarity with agile development methodologies and version control systems (e.g., Git)
  • Experience working in a distributed team environment
