About the Role

As a Software Engineer on the Growth team at Mixpanel, you will play a critical role in driving user acquisition, activation, and conversion. Your primary focus will be on web experimentation, designing, implementing, and analyzing A/B tests across Mixpanel's marketing site and product onboarding flows. This role is highly impactful, as your work will directly influence Mixpanel's top-of-funnel growth and self-serve revenue. You will work closely with the Product and Design teams to turn experiment insights into product improvements, ensuring that data-driven decisions are at the heart of everything you do.

The Growth Engineering team at Mixpanel is responsible for increasing user activation and driving self-serve revenue. This team moves fast, experiments constantly, and measures everything, making it an exciting and dynamic environment for a software engineer looking to make a real impact. The Top of Funnel Pod, where this role is based, is a small, agile team focused on user acquisition and activation, and has recently shipped several high-impact projects, including AI-powered template event suggestions and an AI install wizard.

As a Software Engineer on the Growth team, you will be at the forefront of this effort, working to continuously improve the user experience and drive business growth through data-driven decision-making.

What You Will Do

  • Develop experiments across Mixpanel's product and onboarding flows to optimize acquisition and activation metrics
  • Partner with Product and Design to identify high-impact experiment hypotheses grounded in data and user research
  • Instrument tracking and build dashboards to measure experiment outcomes and inform iteration
  • Build and improve onboarding experiences that drive down time to value for new Mixpanel users
  • Participate in team on-call rotation to improve systems and keep them healthy
  • Collaborate with the Growth team to design and implement new features and experiments
  • Work across the full stack, from frontend UI changes to backend data pipelines
  • Analyze data to identify trends, opportunities, and challenges, and develop strategies to address them
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest developments in web experimentation, data analytics, and software engineering
  • Contribute to the development of best practices and standards for the Growth team

What We Are Looking For

  • At least 2 years of full-stack software engineering experience
  • Excellent debugging and technical investigation skills
  • Strong technical communication skills, with experience collaborating in an asynchronous remote environment
  • Ability to move fast and iterate, with a focus on delivering value to users
  • A data-driven mindset, with experience working with data to inform product decisions
  • Strong understanding of web development principles and practices
  • Experience with version control systems, such as Git
  • Familiarity with agile development methodologies
  • Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to break down complex problems into manageable parts

Nice to Have

  • Interest in leveraging AI/GenAI to accelerate experimentation workflows
  • Prior experience on a growth engineering team or in a growth-focused role
  • React / TypeScript experience
  • Django / Python experience
  • Experience with experimentation platforms, such as Mixpanel, Optimizely, LaunchDarkly, or Statsig
