About the Role
The Software Engineer for Payment Operations at Wingspan is a pivotal role that ensures the seamless execution of payment processes, leveraging expertise in software engineering to develop, maintain, and improve internal systems and automation. This position is integral to Wingspan's mission of simplifying payroll and compliance for flexible workforces. Based in Warsaw and operating under a remote work model, the successful candidate will have the autonomy to diagnose and fix inefficiencies, working closely with the Head of Payments & Compliance Operations. Wingspan's platform is designed to cater to the needs of independent contractors and their businesses, providing a comprehensive solution for onboarding, payments, and compliance. As part of the Payment Operations team, the Software Engineer will play a key role in ensuring the integrity and efficiency of these processes. - Design, develop, and deploy internal systems and automation to eliminate operational inefficiencies, taking ownership from diagnosis to permanent fix.
- Build and maintain reconciliation infrastructure to keep the company's ledger, bank records, and platform transaction data aligned in real-time.
- Develop monitoring and alerting systems to identify funding health issues and payment anomalies, ensuring proactive resolution.
- Collaborate with Engineering, Product, and Finance teams to translate operational patterns into platform-level improvements.
- Contribute to the engineering culture by sharing knowledge, participating in code reviews, and identifying opportunities for improvement.
- Work directly with production systems to engineer fixes for identified issues.
- Develop and maintain documentation for internal systems and processes.
- Engage in continuous learning to stay updated on the latest technologies and trends in payment operations.
- Participate in agile development methodologies to ensure iterative and efficient software development.
What We Are Looking For
- A minimum of 3+ years of experience in software engineering or an engineering-adjacent role, with exposure to payment systems, backend services, or data pipelines.
- Strong SQL skills, with the ability to write standalone scripts and utilize AI tools.
- Familiarity with RESTful APIs and backend services, with experience in Node.js being preferable.
- Experience working in a remote team environment, with excellent communication and collaboration skills.
- A problem-solving mindset, with the ability to diagnose and resolve complex issues.
- Experience with agile development methodologies and version control systems like Git.
