About the Role

The Software Engineer position at Ramp is a critical component of the company's mission to transform the way businesses manage travel. As a member of the Ramp Travel team, you will be responsible for building and scaling the backend services that power the company's travel booking platform. This platform aims to unify booking, spend, and policy in real-time, ensuring that every trip is efficient, compliant, and fully integrated into the company's financial workflows.

The role requires a deep understanding of system design, reliability engineering, and service observability, as well as experience with AI coding tools and high-velocity environments. You will work closely with customers to translate business needs into clean code, and your expertise will be instrumental in shaping the technical foundation for AI agents that learn traveler preferences and automate trip planning and booking.

What You Will Do

  • Own and scale the backend services powering Ramp's travel booking platform
  • Build delightful user experiences that leverage Ramp's integrated travel and spend platform
  • Develop reporting and policy systems that give travel managers real-time visibility into employee travel
  • Lay the technical foundation for AI agents that learn traveler preferences and automate trip planning and booking
  • Design and operate highly scalable, reliable systems that serve millions of travelers
  • Improve internal developer tooling and platform interfaces to accelerate engineering velocity and product development
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration of travel and spend management
  • Participate in code reviews and contribute to the improvement of the overall code quality
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues
  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends and emerging technologies

What We Are Looking For

  • 3+ years of backend engineering experience
  • Strong understanding of system design, reliability engineering, and service observability
  • Experience using AI coding tools to ship fast while maintaining a high bar on quality
  • Fluent in Python or a comparable modern backend language
  • Experience in high-velocity environments
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills
  • Ability to work closely with customers to translate business needs into clean code
  • Experience with cloud-based technologies and microservices architecture
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail

Nice to Have

  • Experience building AI agents that execute complex tasks
  • Travel industry knowledge, especially experience using travel APIs
  • Experience working with difficult and unreliable APIs
  • Familiarity with containerization and orchestration tools
  • Experience with continuous integration and continuous deployment pipelines
