About the Role
Twilio is seeking a skilled Software Engineer to join their team in developing the future platform of communications. As a Software Engineer at Twilio, you will be working on the SMS connectivity layer, building and optimizing for delivery. You will be part of a distributed collaborative team, working independently to troubleshoot and resolve issues in your team's domain. With a strong focus on remote-first work, you will have the opportunity to work from the comfort of your own home in Estonia, while being part of a vibrant team making a global impact.The role entails designing, developing, testing, and deploying features, as well as participating in code reviews to ensure code quality and adherence to coding standards. You will be working with Java and cloud technologies, including AWS, Google, or Azure, to build and optimize complex distributed platforms. Your work will have a direct impact on the company's mission to revolutionize how the world interacts.
What You Will Do
- Design, develop, test, and deploy features alongside an experienced team
- Participate in code reviews to ensure code quality and adherence to coding standards
- Work independently to troubleshoot and resolve issues in your team's domain
- Manage your work through the use of Github, Jira, and build/deploy systems
- Ensure quality by writing unit-, integration-, and load-tests
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define, design, and ship new features
- Develop complex distributed platforms using Java and cloud technologies
- Optimize platform performance, focusing on availability, throughput, latency, and data integrity
- Participate in the on-call rotation to ensure 24/7 coverage
What We Are Looking For
- Experience with Java frameworks such as Dropwizard, Spring, Hibernate, or similar
- Experience with cloud services (AWS preferred, Google, Azure, etc.)
- Strong Computer Science fundamentals, including data structures, algorithms, operating systems, and distributed systems
- Knowledge of processes and engineering best practices in all phases of the software development life cycle
- Readiness to participate in the on-call rotation
- Strong communication skills and desire to make an impact and thrive in small, collaborative, energetic teams
- Experience working with microservice architecture
- Experience with Agile/Scrum methodologies
- Experience with containerization and orchestration tools (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes)
