About the Role
The Software Engineering Manager role at CareerTEAM, LLC is a hands-on leadership position that requires a strong technical background and experience in managing high-performing engineering teams. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading the development of Career Edge, a software platform designed to improve access to opportunity and workforce development. This role involves managing engineers directly, improving engineering quality and velocity, and partnering closely with Product, Design, QA, and U.S.-based stakeholders.As a Software Engineering Manager at CareerTEAM, LLC, you will be working in a fast-paced environment with a team of talented engineers who are passionate about building software that makes a difference. You will be responsible for owning delivery for a defined product or platform area, managing engineers directly, and improving engineering quality and velocity. What You Will Do
- Lead cross-functional engineering teams to deliver high-quality software products
- Own sprint planning, execution, delivery quality, and risk management
- Partner with Product and Design to turn roadmap priorities into executable plans
- Remove blockers and improve team operating rhythm across a distributed environment
- Drive visibility, predictability, and accountability for committed work
- Provide technical leadership across modern web stacks, including Next.js, Nest.js, Node.js, MongoDB, PHP/MySQL, and cloud infrastructure
- Review designs, architecture proposals, and critical code paths
- Support scalable, secure, and maintainable system design within your team's domain
- Improve engineering practices around CI/CD, code review, observability, testing, and incident response
- Help teams adopt practical AI and automation tools where they improve productivity and quality
- Work closely with U.S.-based stakeholders during overlap hours
- Communicate tradeoffs, risks, and delivery status clearly to technical and non-technical partners
What We Are Looking For
- 6-10+ years of experience in software engineering
- 2-4+ years of experience leading teams as an Engineering Manager, Team Lead, or equivalent
- Experience delivering production software in a SaaS, web platform, or product-led environment
- Experience working with distributed or remote teams
- Strong full-stack engineering background, ideally in JavaScript / TypeScript ecosystems
- Experience with Node.js, React / Next.js, Nest.js, APIs, MongoDB, MySQL, and cloud platforms such as AWS
- Familiarity with Docker, CI/CD pipelines, DevOps practices, and modern software delivery workflows
- Strong understanding of maintainable architecture, delivery tradeoffs, and engineering quality
- Leadership traits, including strong communication and coaching skills
- Ability to balance speed, quality, and business priorities
- Calm under ambiguity and effective in a fast-moving environment
Nice to Have
- Experience with machine learning or artificial intelligence
- Knowledge of cybersecurity best practices and security frameworks
- Experience with agile development methodologies, such as Scrum or Kanban
- Certification in software engineering or a related field
