About the Role
The Sr. Applied AI/ML Scientist role at Sproutsocial is a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of AI, data, and engineering, driving the development of LLM-powered features that transform the way news and media intelligence are consumed. As a key member of the AI, Data, and Intelligence Business Unit, you will have the autonomy to make architectural decisions and collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver cutting-edge solutions.The role entails working with large volumes of real-time data, building and shipping LLM-powered features that can reason, retrieve, enrich, and act on news signals. You will be responsible for architecting and delivering production-ready agentic workflows, both ambient and interactive, that can monitor, summarize, and surface insights across NewsWhip's data continuously.
What You Will Do
- Architect and deliver production-ready agentic workflows for LLM-powered features
- Design and develop LLM-powered content enrichments that feed into customer reporting, alerts, and intelligence briefings
- Lead the technical direction for tool-augmented LLM systems, including MCP-compatible services and multi-step reasoning workflows
- Make architecture-level decisions on when to use retrieval, agents, fine-tuning, or classical NLP approaches
- Define structured prompting standards, output schemas, and reusable patterns for the wider engineering team
- Set the bar for evaluating LLM systems, including offline benchmarks, online experimentation, and human-in-the-loop review
- Own guardrails for safety, hallucination reduction, factual grounding, and output consistency in news and media intelligence
- Build observability into every LLM feature, including tracing, cost tracking, latency budgets, quality metrics, and drift monitoring
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate LLM-powered features into the product roadmap
What We Are Looking For
- 5+ years of experience in AI, ML, or a related field, with a focus on applied AI/ML
- Strong background in natural language processing, deep learning, and software development
- Experience with LLM systems, including architecture, development, and deployment
- Strong understanding of AI quality, evaluation, and observability
- Ability to work with large volumes of real-time data and build scalable solutions
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with experience working with cross-functional teams
- Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to drive innovation and experimentation
Nice to Have
- Experience with NewsWhip's technology stack, including Java, Python, and cloud-based infrastructure
- Knowledge of media intelligence, news analysis, or related domains
- Familiarity with agile development methodologies and version control systems
- Experience with cloud-based machine learning platforms, such as AWS SageMaker or Google Cloud AI Platform
