About the Role

The Sr Backend Developer role at BDR Solutions, LLC is a critical position that requires a seasoned professional to design, develop, and maintain secure server-side applications and APIs. As a key member of the team, you will work closely with cross-functional teams, including front-end engineers, DevOps, cybersecurity, and IRS stakeholders. Your primary focus will be on building scalable, high-performing, and secure backend solutions that align with cloud and security standards.

The role is performed virtually from the individual's home office, working on an EST time schedule. This position requires a strong understanding of cloud-native applications, containerization, and microservices architecture. You will be responsible for leading the design and development of secure backend services, RESTful APIs, and microservices that integrate with IRS digital platforms.

What You Will Do

  • Lead the design and development of secure backend services, RESTful APIs, and microservices
  • Implement best practices for cloud-native applications in an AWS and Kubernetes-based environment
  • Collaborate with product owners, technical leads, and stakeholders to refine user stories and translate them into functional backend features
  • Support CI/CD processes using Jenkins, GitHub Actions, and SonarQube
  • Perform unit testing, integration testing, and assist in developing automated test cases
  • Troubleshoot and resolve production issues, providing root cause analysis and implementing long-term fixes
  • Contribute to performance tuning, scalability testing, and capacity planning
  • Work closely with the DevOps team to ensure smooth deployment and operation of backend services
  • Participate in code reviews and ensure that the codebase is maintainable, efficient, and follows industry standards
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest technologies and trends in backend development

What We Are Looking For

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field
  • 7+ years of backend development experience, including at least 3+ years in a senior or lead developer role
  • Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments delivering iterative releases
  • Familiarity with cloud environments, FedRAMP, FISMA, and NIST 800-53 standards
  • Experience with tools such as Jenkins, Git, SonarQube, NexusIQ, Selenium, and AppDynamics
  • Strong understanding of cybersecurity principles and practices
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work independently
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills

Nice to Have

  • CompTIA Sec+ (or equivalent baseline DoD 8570 IAT Level II certification)
  • AWS Certified Developer – Associate (or equivalent cloud certification)
  • Certified Scrum Developer (CSD) or other Agile-related certification
  • AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Associate or Professional
  • Certified Kubernetes Application Developer (CKAD) or similar container-related certification
