About the Role

The Sr. Compensation Business Partner role at Coinbase is a senior individual contributor position that spans three key focus areas: executive compensation, compensation business partnering for senior executives across various groups, and driving AI strategy and transformation across the Compensation function. This role is critical in helping define what an AI-first Compensation function looks like at Coinbase, building workflows and tooling that enhance team efficiency while delivering executive-ready recommendations on complex pay decisions.

As part of the Global Total Rewards team within the People Success Team organization, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to work closely with senior leaders, external advisors, and other stakeholders to drive compensation strategies that align with Coinbase's mission to increase economic freedom. The role involves a deep understanding of executive compensation, the ability to partner effectively with senior executives, and a keen eye for leveraging AI to transform compensation practices.

Coinbase is a remote-first company, but it's not remote-only, with quarterly in-person working sessions, or 'surges,' that are intense and productive. This setup requires a professional who is not only adept at working independently but also excels in collaborative, fast-paced environments.

What You Will Do

  • Own executive compensation for Coinbase's most senior leaders, including executive offers, long-term incentive design, and Compensation Committee materials in partnership with Legal, Finance, and external advisors.
  • Partner as the dedicated compensation business partner to a portfolio of senior executives across G&A and Product groups, delivering concise recommendations on anything compensation-related.
  • Lead AI strategy and transformation for the Compensation function by identifying, designing, and deploying AI-enabled workflows and agents that accelerate benchmarking, scenario modeling, and stakeholder communications.
  • Translate complex pay scenarios and program tradeoffs into clear narratives and executive-ready materials that drive decisions in an async-first environment.
  • Shape executive compensation program design, including proxy considerations, scenario modeling, and LTI structures aligned to company strategy.
  • Develop and maintain deep knowledge of market trends, regulatory requirements, and best practices in executive compensation to inform compensation decisions.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment and effective implementation of compensation strategies.
  • Provide guidance on compensation-related matters to various stakeholders, including senior executives, HR partners, and external advisors.

What We Are Looking For

  • 8+ years of compensation experience with increasing scope, including deep executive compensation expertise.
  • Proven track record as a trusted advisor to senior leaders, with demonstrated ability to influence without authority and deliver hard messages with clarity.
  • Analytical and modeling fluency in Excel/Sheets, with the ability to analyze complex data sets and develop insightful recommendations.
  • Demonstrated ability to write concise, decision-ready documents for senior executives, including problem framing, scenario tradeoffs, and clear recommendations.
  • Experience operating on small, high-output teams where you owned end-to-end workstreams with minimal direction in fast-paced, ambiguous environments.
  • Utilizes generative AI responsibly, maintaining human oversight to deliver business-ready outputs and drive measurable improvements in workflow efficiency, cost, and quality.
  • Strong understanding of compensation principles, practices, and regulatory requirements.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with compensation software and systems.
  • Knowledge of cryptocurrency or financial technology industries.
  • Certification in compensation, such as CCP or GRP.
  • Experience with data visualization tools to present complex compensation data in a clear and concise manner.
  • Familiarity with AI and machine learning concepts and their application in compensation practices.
