About the Role
The Sr. Data Privacy & Risk Counsel will play a vital role in Engine's mission to transform business travel into a personalized, rewarding, and simple experience. As a key member of the team, this individual will be responsible for crafting and executing innovative strategies to build and operate Engine's enterprise data privacy, AI governance, and risk management function. This role entails collaborating with cross-functional teams, such as Security, Product, and Finance, to unlock new opportunities and deliver seamless, legally compliant experiences for customers.Engine is a hybrid-hub mode company, offering a unique work environment that drives success. The Sr. Data Privacy & Risk Counsel will report to a senior leadership team and will be responsible for leading the design and implementation of automated workflows and structured frameworks to enhance efficiency, scalability, and corporate compliance.
What You Will Do
- Craft and execute innovative strategies to build and operate Engine's enterprise data privacy, AI governance, and risk management function
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, such as Security, Product, and Finance, to unlock new opportunities and deliver seamless, legally compliant experiences for customers
- Lead the design and implementation of automated workflows, such as CCPA/CPRA handling, and structured frameworks, including AI governance and tiered vendor risk programs
- Provide exceptional support and insights to clients and internal partners, ensuring every risk evaluation and incident response interaction with Engine exceeds expectations
- Develop and maintain a deep understanding of the regulatory landscape, including CCPA/CPRA, US state privacy law frameworks, and FTC Section 5 standards
- Stay up-to-date with the latest trends and developments in data privacy, AI governance, and risk management
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to identify and mitigate potential risks and threats to Engine's business
- Develop and implement policies and procedures to ensure compliance with relevant regulations and laws
- Provide training and guidance to employees on data privacy, AI governance, and risk management best practices
- Conduct regular audits and assessments to ensure Engine's compliance with relevant regulations and laws
What We Are Looking For
- 4-6 years of hands-on experience in privacy law, either in-house or at a firm with an established privacy practice, backed by a J.D. with an active bar admission in good standing
- Deep working knowledge of CCPA/CPRA, US state privacy law frameworks, and FTC Section 5 standards
- Experience with tech-savvy solutions, such as OneTrust or similar privacy management platforms
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to thrive in fast-paced, innovative environments
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work with cross-functional teams
- Ability to roll up sleeves, collaborate across the enterprise, protect material findings through structural privilege, and deliver results that matter
- Strong understanding of the regulatory landscape and the ability to stay up-to-date with the latest trends and developments
- Experience with data privacy, AI governance, and risk management in a business travel or fintech context
