Sr. Data Science Manager - Ads Marketplace

About the Role

Reddit's Ads Marketplace is a key area of focus for the company, given that advertising is its primary revenue driver. The ambitious goal is to turn this into a massive business, capitalizing on the unique aspects of Reddit's community-centric platform. The Sr. Data Science Manager will play a critical role in achieving this goal by driving data science projects end-to-end, partnering with Product, Engineering, and Sales teams to inform product strategy and investment decisions.

The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in data science, machine learning, and economics, as well as experience in leading teams and driving strategic decisions. The ability to analyze large datasets, identify trends and patterns, and develop data-driven optimization strategies is essential. This role offers a tremendous opportunity for scope and impact, given Reddit's high employee/user ratio and its position as one of the internet's largest sources of information.

What You Will Do

• Inspire, lead, and grow a team of data scientists to achieve the longer-term vision for Reddit's Ads Marketplace.
• Drive data science projects from conception to implementation, working closely with cross-functional teams to ensure that data insights inform product strategy and investment decisions.
• Analyze large datasets to understand marketplace dynamics, identifying trends, patterns, and insights that can help define and execute data-driven optimization strategies.
• Actively influence the design of the strategy and shaping of the roadmap for the Ads Marketplace, generating and using team insights to set and prioritize longer-term goals.
• Develop and implement A/B testing, experimentation, and other cutting-edge statistical/mathematical frameworks to analyze Ads (marketplace) performance.
• Continually develop and execute on a Data Science roadmap and vision for the team, staying abreast of industry best practices and emerging technologies in advertising and data science.
• Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and technical excellence within the team.
• Be an integral part of the Data Science Organization, contributing to and leveraging the knowledge base shared across the community of data experts.
• Partner with Product, Engineering, and Sales to build a transparent and efficient marketplace that meets the needs of both advertisers and users.

What We Are Looking For

• PhD or Master's degree in Economics, Statistics, Machine Learning, Operations Research, or other quantitative fields.
• A minimum of 8+ years of industry data science experience for those with a Master's degree, or 6+ years for those with a PhD.
• Proven experience in leading a team of data scientists, preferably in the context of digital advertising or a similar field.
• Strong expertise in machine learning, data analysis, and statistical modeling.
• Experience with data visualization tools and the ability to communicate complex data insights effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Excellent leadership and project management skills, with the ability to drive projects from start to finish and manage multiple priorities.
• Strong understanding of the digital advertising ecosystem and the challenges faced by advertisers and publishers.
• Experience with Excel and other data analysis tools.

Nice to Have

• Experience with programming languages such as Python, R, or SQL.
• Knowledge of cloud-based data platforms and big data technologies.
• Familiarity with A/B testing and experimentation methodologies.
• Experience in the development and implementation of data-driven products or features.
• Certification in data science or a related field.
