About the Role

The Senior Director, Finance Technology Analyst role at Gartner is a unique opportunity for a seasoned professional to provide expert guidance to CIOs in the discipline of IT Financial Management. As a leader within Gartner's Business and Technology Insights group, this role entails establishing oneself as a credible voice in the market, producing innovative and thought-provoking insights that address the priorities and challenges of CIO clients. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience supporting CIO organizations, with a focus on technology budgeting, service tower costing, and cloud/AI economics.

The role requires a deep understanding of IT financial management practices, including budgeting, cost benchmarking, costing, allocation, chargeback, strategic cost management, and governance. The Senior Director will engage with clients via in-person and virtual meetings, sales support visits, and Gartner conferences to discuss complex client challenges and offer recommendations. This role is not a corporate FP&A position, but rather a specialized role that requires expertise in technology finance and a keen eye for identifying gaps, problems, and solutions within the market.

What You Will Do

  • Create innovative and thought-provoking insights that address the priorities and challenges of CIO clients
  • Serve as an authority on how CIOs can establish and execute sound financial management of the technology budget and business outcome-driven initiatives
  • Deliver strong positions on best and emerging practices for CIOs to manage finances, resulting in reduced operating costs and positive business outcomes
  • Present on IT financial management content and related thought leadership in one-to-one and one-to-many forums
  • Develop predictions and scenarios about the future of IT financial management and the implications and actions for CIOs
  • Develop new insights and ideas through thought leadership and offer compelling, actionable approaches to clients' needs and requests
  • Conduct in-depth analysis to identify the root cause of a client's barriers or overall needs and reframe thinking to drive strategy forward
  • Demonstrate thought leadership in establishing and executing sound financial management practices
  • Engage with clients via in-person and virtual meetings, sales support visits, and Gartner conferences

What We Are Looking For

  • Hands-on experience supporting CIO organizations, with a focus on technology budgeting, service tower costing, and cloud/AI economics
  • Deep understanding of IT financial management practices, including budgeting, cost benchmarking, costing, allocation, chargeback, strategic cost management, and governance
  • Prior exposure to technology finance, ITFM/TBM practices, or FinOps/cloud cost governance
  • Experience in IT finance, including areas such as IT budgeting, cost benchmarking, costing, allocation, chargeback, strategic cost management, AI and cloud spend analysis, and governance
  • Background in vendors and tool selection from IT finance technology providers
  • Demonstrated commitment to staying current on the economic and governance impacts of AI and cloud technologies
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify gaps, problems, and solutions within the market
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to engage with clients and deliver thought leadership

  • Experience with Excel and other financial management tools
  • Knowledge of cloud and AI technologies, including unit economics, consumption pricing, and FinOps practices
