About the Role
As a Senior IT Systems Engineer at CenturyLink, you will be responsible for providing advanced Tier II support for a nationwide fiber optic transport network, as well as network support for two geographically separated Network Operation Centers (NOC). This is a high-accountability environment where bold ideas drive real innovation for customers, partners, and the industry. Your expertise will be crucial in ensuring the smooth operation of the network, and your contributions will have a direct impact on the company's success.The IT Systems Engineer role is a critical component of the company's network management team, and you will be working closely with Lead Engineers to design and implement network requirements. Your day-to-day responsibilities will include troubleshooting and repairing network devices, tools, and services, as well as providing technical expertise for network implementations and deactivations.

What You Will Do
- Perform Transport Network Management functions in engineering and operations environments
- Operate as a technical SME for transport network management applications
- Work Tier-2 trouble escalations for SONET, OTN, and DWDM troubles
- Troubleshoot and coordinate Tier-2 Network Implementations projects
- Serve as a technical POC for service provisioning, configurations, and test and turn-up processes
- Interface with Lead Engineers on network requirements and designs
- Work and coordinate Tier-2 Network deactivation and decommission of Transport SONET, OTN, DWDM transport devices
- Write and maintain technical operational documentation and SOP for Transport discipline supporting the NOC
- Develop and maintain Circuit Layout Records, Network Diagrams, and other supporting documentation
- Review and provide feedback to network as-built, Engineering Development Plans, and configuration management drawings
What We Are Looking For
- Requires a Top Secret/SCI clearance
- On-call after-hours/on-call support as required
- Expected to work in a shift environment in support of 24x7 operations
- Up to 10% travel can be expected
- Must have technical skills and experience in the OTN/SONET/DWDM profession
- Operate and accomplish technical tasks with minimum guidance
- Security+ or equivalent IAT/IAM/IASAE Level 2 of DOD 8570.1 is required
- At least 5 years of experience in a network management environment
- Demonstrates a high level of proficiency in the OTN/SONET/DWDM profession
- Expertise in the uses of network management protocols, tools, and products such as One Control, MCP, DNA, TNMS, Remedy
- Fluent in the use of Microsoft Office tools to include Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Visio
Nice to Have
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in an Information Technology field
- Ciena OC-A certification is preferred
- High level of knowledge of DWDM, SONET, OTN, and TDM technology
