Job Description

About the Role

As a Sr. Payroll Analyst at Amplitude, you will play a critical role in ensuring the accuracy and timeliness of payroll processing for employees across the US and Canada. This is a high-impact position that requires a deep understanding of payroll operations, equity compensation, and compliance. You will sit within the Finance organization and collaborate closely with HR, Legal, Benefits, and Stock Administration to drive process improvements and optimization.

The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in Workday Payroll and experience managing full-cycle payroll for US and Canadian employees. You will be responsible for resolving complex payroll issues, driving process improvements, and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.

What You Will Do

  • Own end-to-end payroll operations for US and Canadian employees, ensuring accuracy and timeliness
  • Act as the primary payroll point of contact for employees and internal stakeholders, resolving inquiries with a high level of accuracy and professionalism
  • Lead payroll system operations in Workday, including configuring deductions and withholdings, managing EIB uploads, and building reports
  • Manage equity compensation payroll events, including RSUs, NSOs, and ISOs, ensuring proper taxation, reporting, and reconciliation
  • Support month-end close and accounting activities, including preparing journal entries and reconciling payroll-related GL accounts
  • Ensure compliance across jurisdictions, staying up to date on US federal, state, and local regulations, as well as Canadian provincial requirements
  • Own year-end payroll processes, including W-2, T4, and T2200 preparation, reconciliations, and filings
  • Drive process improvements and automation, identifying opportunities to increase efficiency and reduce manual work
  • Support audits and SOX compliance efforts, maintaining documentation and executing controls

What We Are Looking For

  • 5+ years of hands-on experience managing payroll in Workday, with Workday Payroll as the primary system of record
  • Proven experience running full-cycle payroll for US and Canadian employees
  • Deep understanding of equity compensation payroll, including RSU, NSO, and ISO taxation, processing, and reporting requirements
  • Experience supporting month-end close, including preparing journal entries and reconciling payroll-related GL accounts
  • Strong knowledge of US payroll tax laws and regulations
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize multiple deadlines
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills

Nice to Have

  • Experience with Workday Payroll implementations, upgrades, or system enhancements
  • Knowledge of Canadian payroll regulations and taxation
  • Certification in payroll or a related field
  • Experience working in a SOX-controlled environment
