About the Role

As a Sr. Privacy Counsel embedded in the product development process, you will play a pivotal role in advising on privacy-by-design from the earliest stages of feature development through launch. This position is critical in ensuring that HighLevel's products not only comply with evolving privacy regulations but also provide a transparent and secure experience for users.

The Sr. Privacy Counsel will be part of a dynamic team that values innovation, collaboration, and impact. With a global community of over 2 million businesses and processing over 4 billion API hits daily, HighLevel is at the forefront of digital marketing solutions. The successful candidate will report to the Managing Counsel, Product & Compliance, and work closely with the Privacy Program Manager and the broader legal team to ensure that privacy considerations are integrated into every aspect of product development.

What You Will Do

  • Serve as HighLevel's primary privacy advisor for product development, embedded in the full lifecycle from concept through release.
  • Review new features, product changes, and data practices for privacy implications, providing actionable guidance that enables informed decision-making.
  • Advise on consent mechanisms, data collection disclosures, cookie and tracking implementations, and user-facing privacy controls.
  • Partner with product and engineering to design privacy-compliant solutions for AI-powered features, analytics, and data-driven functionality.
  • Conduct privacy reviews for new integrations, partnerships, and third-party data sharing arrangements.
  • Provide day-to-day counseling on GDPR, CCPA/CPRA, and other US state privacy laws as they apply to HighLevel's products and operations.
  • Monitor and advise on emerging privacy regulations globally, translating new requirements into practical product guidance.
  • Advise on TCPA, CAN-SPAM, and other marketing compliance issues as they intersect with product functionality.

What We Are Looking For

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in privacy law, preferably with a focus on product development and technology companies.
  • Strong knowledge of GDPR, CCPA/CPRA, and other US state privacy laws, as well as international data transfer mechanisms.
  • Experience in advising on privacy-by-design and data protection impact assessments.
  • Ability to communicate complex legal concepts to non-legal stakeholders and provide practical, business-oriented advice.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to navigate complex regulatory environments.
  • A law degree (JD) and admission to a US state bar.
  • Experience working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, with the ability to adapt to changing priorities and deadlines.

Nice to Have

  • Certification in information privacy (CIPP/US, CIPP/E, etc.).
  • Experience with AI-driven features and data analytics platforms.
  • Knowledge of marketing compliance issues, including TCPA and CAN-SPAM.
  • Familiarity with agile development methodologies and version control systems.
