About the Role
As a Staff AI Product Builder at Brightwheel, you will be responsible for developing AI-powered improvements in core workflows, working closely with cross-functional teams to drive product decisions. Your day-to-day tasks will involve designing and building cross-cutting AI services, owning the end-to-end product loop, and creating shared abstractions to help other teams build safely and consistently. You will be part of a distributed team with remote employees across every US time zone, as well as select offices in the US and internationally.Brightwheel's mission is to provide high-quality early education for every child, and as a Staff AI Product Builder, you will play a critical role in achieving this goal. What You Will Do
- Design and build cross-cutting AI services, such as retrieval, context, evaluation, and guardrails, to power multiple product areas
- Own the end-to-end product loop for the problems you take on, including talking to customers and internal teams, defining success metrics, and shipping iterative releases
- Create shared abstractions and patterns to help other teams build safely and consistently
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive product decisions and ensure alignment with company goals
- Develop and maintain a deep understanding of the company's products and technology stack
- Identify opportunities for improvement and propose solutions to drive growth and innovation
- Work closely with the data team to design and implement data models and APIs
- Build front-end experiences that sit on top of the back-end logic, creating a seamless user experience
- Design and implement security measures to protect sensitive school, educator, and family data
- Participate in code reviews and contribute to the improvement of the overall code quality
What We Are Looking For
- A Staff-level full-stack builder with a strong background in AI and product development
- Experience with modern AI coding assistants and IDEs, as well as lightweight automation or orchestration tools
- A product-driving technical leader who can validate hypotheses with prototypes and talk to customers and internal teams
- A full-stack developer with experience designing data models and APIs, implementing backend logic, and building front-end experiences
- A thoughtful and security-minded individual who understands the limits of AI and can design data flows, UX, and guardrails around those constraints
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work with cross-functional teams
- A passion for education and technology, with a commitment to delivering high-quality products that have a real impact
- Experience working with sensitive data and implementing secure designs and least-privilege access patterns
- A strong understanding of the company's products and technology stack, with the ability to contribute to its growth and innovation

- Experience with cloud-based technologies and distributed systems
